Chapter Mascots
I didn't know how common it was to have a local mascot as well as a national mascot. I know at my school, Phi Mu's have adopted the ladybug instead of the lion since there is also an ADPi chapter at my school and they use the lion. And our chapter of Chi Omega uses the chili pepper as well as the owl. Do any of y'alls chapters of your sororities/fraternities have chapter mascots?

We don't have ANY mascot, local OR national. I have heard some some SAI chapters that have done so though.
I also heard of one SAI chapter that each family line has their own mascot so they can distinguish lines. |
Our national doesn't exactly have a mascot although for some reason, someone in my chapter said it was a panda bear two years ago and then we found other chapters that had no idea about the panda... so I don't know. My chapter adopted the lamb (Delta Lambda- cheesy, but cute) when we were founded. And like Sairose said, we have some family lines that have "mascots:" mine is cherries just because, one family is called the Dynasty because almost everyone in it is Asian. Another is the Fertile Turtle family (tons of people in that family!). It's just all how you look at it.

We have a mascot for EVERYTHING.
National - Raggedy Ann (Ophia) Chapter - Opal the Cow (we're Mu chapter. I HATE cows.) Family - Eta Elephants, Zeta Lions, Gamma Frogs (mine is the frog) I don''t have enough stuffed animals. I think surely we could come up with a mascot for something else.... |
We have national and local mascots. Phi Sig's national mascot is the sphinx and my chapter's local mascot is the penguin. It's a nice addition to the chapter because we give each other stuffed penguins as gifts on holidays. It definitely helps make our chapter unique.

Our Phi Sigma Sigma Chapter in Southern California has chosen the butterfly as our local mascot. We have chosen things from nature as our "family" mascots. My family is the star, we also have dolphins, suns, ladybugs, queen bees, clouds, dragonflies, and I'm probably missing another family our two.

Almost all AOII chapters recognize the panda as an "unofficial" International mascot. Many chapters also had/have local mascots as well. My chapter's local mascot is the unicorn, but I doubt they use that much anymore.

Our nation is a teddy bear and our local is a ladybug. Word is that one day we just decided to add a local mascot after a national conference. It's so much fun to have two mascots...it makes it easier to find presents!

Sigma Alpha's national mascot is a baby bull. And my chapter I guess has never been too keen on that so we adopted the yellow duck as our chapter mascot. We make duck shaped cookies for rush, duck pillows, little rubber ducks as big and little gifts. It's a lot easier than finding baby bull stuff thats cute :)

Mascots
As previously mentioned, Phi Sigma Sigma's national symbol is the Sphinx. While my chapter's local mascot is the Owl. Supposedly our local founders chose it standing for being studious and nocternal (more of the second I think) ;)

DphiE's national mascot is the unicorn...my chapter also uses this as our mascot although they seem to be in short supply these days (the only reason my LiL's received any was b/c of eBay) Lately girls have been getting creative and shaping their paddles like precious moments unicorns...it doesn't get any better than that!
EDITED TO ADD: What's REALLY scary is that i'm watching a re-run of Ally McBeal and it's the one where she "sees" a UNICORN!!! |
When I was pledging I had been told by someone that the Gammie Gator was our national mascot...I had asked the CLC (collegiate leadership consultant) about it a semester or two later and she said that some chapters had local mascots, but there was no national mascot (the gator is actually the local mascot at another school in our province). Then last summer we decided to add a mascot to our chapter as well, and we wanted something different and unique, so we chose the unicorn.

We have a little stuffed snake called Charlie. I believe he's been stolen again (he's a favorite target of sororities when they visit us).

as a local, we have a symbol (palm tree), a flower (pink rose), and a gem stone (opal).
We have kinda adopted Quasi Moto as our mascot. It's an inside joke among the sisters. One girl just said it one day and it stuck. It's kinda funny tho. |
