Does anyone know where the saying "Close but no cigar" came from? I was thinking about it all the way home last nite.

Almost winning. Cigars used to be popular prizes handed out at fair and carnival games. There's a website about these kind of sayings, but those b*stards disable your right mouse button, so you can't copy, cut, nor paste.

Try looking at the website with Netscape; instead of IE. Most webmasters don’t enable so many security features for Netscape.
