Neighbour Relation is very important
 

Unfortunately, not an uncommon feeling among neighbors. This is something to keep in mind.

I have little sympathy for people who live next to a college campus or move in next to a fraternity/sorority house and don't take things like this into account. In most cases our houses were there long before the current residents moved in.

That's true, but it's still important to be good neighbors and obey the law.

Tough situation.

I can see both sides of the issue.

The DU house was there before the law was changed, I don't know how long before people started moving there. Maybe the families who are the most vocal lived in the neighborhood before the DUs moved in? I'm not sure. But, they have a certain legacy being there, and I'm sure they want to be where they consider "home".

But, they endangered the residents of that neighborhood. I don't know how much you all know about houses in that part of Massachusetts, but most are of wood construction, and built pretty closely together. One house fire can really start a big neighborhood fire. Their fire, unlike a lot of other ones which plague houses, was based on negligence. If they are as bad as their neighbors said they are, and their carelessness endangered the neighborhood, I would want them out too.

Wonder how things will turn out.

The point about who was there first is interesting, but probably moot.

This kind of situation will, in the long run, go the same way as "dry" housing, etc. Chapters will be under increasing pressure to be good neighbors -- to hold parties in different locations. To be more considerate of neighbors.

Like the alcohol, drug and hazing issues, "business as usual -- we've always done it that way" chapters will not survive.

We're on the defensive internationally. If we don't embrace some manner of conforming to our neighborhoods, our houses will be zoned right out of existance.

Nothing fair about that. It's like people who move into a house off the end of an airport runway and then complain about the noise.

So, while I agree with KT, it really doesn't matter in the end. We'll lose unless we change.

This is also a good example of why Greek Row type situations can be beneficial for everyone if possible.

I agree, Greek Row type housing tends to be the best. At ASU they are getting rid of the Greek Row in order to build all the greeks a community stlye living. All of the old houses, which have been up for more than 40 years will be torn down in the next year or two. The new houses will be just like freshman dorms, and it is really going to suck. It seems as if they are trying to kill the Greek system, and it really blows.

On one side of my house is a campus Christian house. One the other side is Delta Chi. We never have any problems really. In fact, the people who live in the Christian house really don't even talk to us. I rarely see anyone going in or out of it, but about 8 people live there. They never complain that we're too loud.
