Beauty and the Beholder

Hey kiddies -

Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?

I'm just wondering, because I'd heard that before, and I want your opinion on this strange maxim. Also, hi Blaine!!!

Yes, I believe beauty IS in the eye of the beholder. Of course, there are instances when almost everyone can appreciate the same beauty of an object, person or experience (like a glorious sunrise).

I do think we are somewhat "conditioned" to see beauty in things
that really don't qualify as "beautiful". Uniqueness is a quality that comes to mind. I also think the term is bandied about as is the word love.

When a parent looks at their child, they see beauty that others may not perceive. The same is true for the couple that has been married for eons. I can see beauty in that girl who plays Lana on Smallville. I can look at my mothers face and see beauty that is beyond compare. Most children think their Moms are beautiful and their Dad's are handsome...until someone or something changes that perception. I refer to it as advertising...

beauty is only a lightswitch away..:p

Yes, it is in the eye of the beholder. While some people might not think Mr. Mox is hot.....I think he's better than Brad Pitt. :)
Plus. the feeling I'm getting from some of the GC girls on the "going out w/o makeup" thread is that they do not think they are beautiful without makeup. My guess is that they are just as lovely, even though they might not think so. :)

Maybe it's different for other people, but when my beer goggles are on, guys who are on the line of good looking to mediocre start to look worse. But the good looking ones get even more so. :D

I know what you're saying. If I didn't think a guy was hot before the beer, I won't think so afterwards...although I might think he's cooler after talking to him since I'm way more friendly when the beer starts kicking in. For me, looks on a guy don't mean all that much - attraction is important, but an awesome personality can make a guy so much more attractive.

I get beer goggles on myself. It's awful. I'll go in the bathroom and think, "DAMN! I look GOOD!!", and then I see pictures taken that night and look like I got hit by the beer truck itself. And god forbid I ever decide to fix my hair or my makeup when I'm drunk. Never a good idea. :)
