Soror raising funds for AIDs Marathon

Greeting Sorors,

Soror Kim Walters, along with one of her friends, is in training for a marathon in Vancouver. Kim is based in Los Angeles. She is seeking our assistance in raising funds for the marathon. Her message is below. Please help where you can.

Sisterly,
tiny terror
********************************************
Greetings,

As some of your many know, Julie and I are in-training to represent the AIDS Project Los Angeles (APLA) in the upcoming Adidas Vancouver International Marathon in Canada on May 4, 2003. I've decided to contact you in the hopes of receiving your encouragement and financial support because together Julie and I must raise $5,600 in order to participate (of which more than 60% will go directly to AIDS research/support and 40% directly to the marathon). That's $35 from 160 people, and a whole lot of
work - - but we're up for the challenge.

Here's where we are now:

DONATION EARNINGS TO DATE: $70.00
AMOUNT TO GO: $5,530.00
DEADLINE TO EARN: JANUARY 31, 2002

Below is a list of a few ways that you and/or your company can help our fundraising efforts. Remember your donation is 100% tax deductible; we will acknowledge any donation in writing for your tax purposes:

#1 -Charity auction on the evening of December 13, 2002
For this event we ask that you donate items which we can auction off for charity. If you work for a company (or know someone who does) that may be willing to donate auction items (suggested value: $50 or more), such as airline tickets, fashion apparel, gift certificates (e.g., spas. restaurants, dinner), music, celebrity-autographed items, celebrity dates, event tickets, limousine services, television tapings or tickets to sporting events - please let us know. All proceeds from the auction
will directly benefit APLA. We will need items ASAP in order to ensure a successful event.

#2 - Body Sponsorships
If you would like some advertising we are willing to wear your logo (on our calf, arm, t-shirt, etc.) while we are training or during the Vancouver Marathon on May 4!

#3 - Cash Donations
Of course there is always the old fashioned way of making a donation - cash. If you would like, you can support us via the web at www.aidsmarathon.com/sponsorlavn.jsp (Team # 7002) or we can send you a donation form, which you simply fill out and return to us or the APLA.

#4 - Gift Wrapping & Silent Auction
If you are in the Brentwood area on Saturday or Sunday December 14,15,21 & 22, we will be sitting in front of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf on San Vicente/Barrington wrapping Christmas gifts for donations. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf has generously donated the supplies, so all you need to do is show up with a few unwrapped gifts!

#5 - Pass Out Water
We understand that you may not live close enought to help and 'tis the season for going broke. You can also support us by signing up to pass out water during any one of our Saturday training sessions. We are each allowed one (1) volunteer each week. Just for hydrating the runners, APLA will knock off $20 of the total dollars we have to earn off of our
account.

Though we each have our own motivation for participating, our larger goal is a collective one: to help a worthy cause that no one is immune to. Julie and I would like to thank you in advance for your contribution and support as we prepare to run/walk 26.2 miles come May 4. We appreciate all the encouragement that our friends, family and co-workers have given us. The sooner we raise the money, the sooner we can focus on training for one of the greatest challenges of our lives.

Thanks much and Happy Holidays!!!

Kim Walters & Julie Grau (Team "Palms to Vancouver" # 7002)
