Name goes here - isms
I am talking about those things your friends say or have said that are just very funny at the right moment. We call them isms.
Like yesterday, my friends and I were walking down a crowded Michigan Ave. shopping. And our conversation turned loud and goofy when she said "I can't stay away from the penis" and the three people walking alongside of us started laughing their heads off, not having any clue what our conversation was about. That is now a Jeni-ism Then a little later, my other friend Jamie takes a look at a sign that says "Jaipur, cuisine from India" and she says "I bet that is a Mexican restaurant." About a year ago, we went out to eat at JBucks - a restaurant owned by baseball guru Jack Buck in St. Louis. And my same friend, who has lived near St. Louis all her life, is on the phone saying "Yea, we are at JBucks, named after the poet. I saw some poetry on the wall." |

Back in high school, I had a couple of teachers who often said amusing/semi-sarcastic things. I had both of these teachers during senior year. Over the course of the school year, I assembled lists of "Smithisms" and "Jonesisms", and on the last day of the year I presented each of them with the lists.
One of these teachers asked a girl who arrived 5 minutes late to class, "Was he good?" He also referred to 9th graders as "hormones on legs" and to people who didn't pay attention in class or do their homework as "Future Gas-Pumpers of America". |
Yes, I have Earpisms and Earpadotes!
One of these days, if you have not seen them on other threads, I will post some!:D HOHOHO! Bah Humbug! |
A couple weeks ago my bf and I were eating Taco Bell, and I had some left over, so as his roommate was walking by, I asked him if he wanted it. He didn't hear me, so I scream "Scrappy! Eat my taco!!" The entire room just stopped DEAD. It was hilarious. Now it's the running joke between myself and his girlfriend :D

In high school, my favorite math and science teacher, Mr. Frago used to make mercilious fun of me.
When I had him my freshman year, we were taking a chemistry quiz, and one of the questions asked was "What is a mole?" (referring of course to the chemical term) But, my answer was "A little furry animal that lives in the forest. Mr. Frago fell off of his chair laughing when he read that answer, and still gave me full credit on the question. Apparently through the years though, it became quite the classic antecdote, and when I was recently subbing at my old high school, it became a topic of conversation in one of the classes. But, the real point I was going to make was about "Borba Math" (Borba is my last name), everytime there was a tough proof in Mr. Frago's class, I would always have a slight problem. I would get through all of the really hard, theoretical part of the math fine, but then I would get to the end of the problem and add 2 + 3 and get 6 or something insanely stupid like that. So, from then on whenever someone made a juvenile mistake on a problem in one of Mr. Frago's classes, he would drag out the old story of "Borba Math" -Lil Snakey K |
My friend Chrissie is slightly ditzy. She's a smart girl...always gets A's but when it comes to common sense, she lacks in that department. Someone mentioned something to her about it one day. Our friend, Sean, goes, "You're book smart but you're still really ditzy. I don't get it." Chrissie answered with, "I'm really smart but I'm just personality-dumb." She had the whole room roaring with laughter. We now call that a Chrissie-ism. Funny thing is that the phrase caught on and I've heard many of my friends use it to describe themselves.

i always have -ism moments. . .
example: my guy friend and i were riding the mono-rail for the first time last year. i turned to him and said, 'you know why they call this a mono-rail? because it's only one rail. . .' and he just shook his head and said 'blonde' |
I posted this in another thread, but one of my favorites was my friend who yelled, "IF I HAD A D&$%, I WOULDN'T EVEN LET PITTSBURGH SUCK IT!!!!" during the Browns/Steelers game. In the Dawg Pound. Surrounded by many large men with shocked looks on their faces, luckily none of whom were from Pittsburgh.
