Cool Alumni

The other night when I tried to have an informal meeting to start a Kappa Alpha Theta Alumni chapter (this is in another thread) some of the ladies that showed up were telling us some good stories. One caught my attention though.

Kappa Alpha Theta has an Alumni chapter in Indianapolis of around 800 women from what I understand. For those of you that don't know both the 1st and 2nd ladies of the United States are Theta's. Well anyway, Mrs Chaney (did I spell that right) invited the alumni to Washington for a dinner. Around 200 women took the offer and boarded charter buses to go to the white house.

I just thought this was an awsome thing to do on behalf of the 2nd lady and I was wondering if any of your famous Alumni did anything similar.

Bob Dole is a Kappa Sigma alumni and he always welcomes students to his D.C. offices, especially if they are Kappa Sigs. He held a campaign rally during the election at Kansas University and commented how it made his heart good to always see Kappa Sigma shirts and caps on the campaign trail.

Ditto for Senator Richard Lugar, who is heavily involved in Beta Theta Pi. He has even come to our General Convention every year

When we had out alumni BBQ last summer, some of our alumni from 91-93 took us out to a nice little titty bar downtown. Had hours of lapdance fun. We also got to hear stories of some of the times when our chapter was top dog.

Alumni kick ass!

That reminds me, I just got elected alumno chair. COngrats to me.

Trent Lott

Trent Lott's a Sigma Nu. Very involved with his chapter still from what I understand. He appears frequently in our magazine, The Delta.

Bob Graham (also a Senator) is also a Sigma Nu (Chair of Senate Intelligence Committee I believe).

We also have around 6 current US Reps.

Re: Trent Lott

Funny you would post this, because this morning on Good Morning America, they were bashing Trent Lott because he voted during college to ban African Americans from his fraternity, along with somebody else in government. They're really digging up the poop on him now!!

DeltaSigStan, your post is offensive and further perpetuates the negative stereotype of Greek men.

I hardly think this reply was in the spirit of meheron's original query--she asked if any of your organizations *famous* alumni or alumnae support the chapter in *positive* ways.

She did *not* ask to hear about your sleazy exploits with alumni who choose to throw their money away at strip clubs in order to pathetically attempt to regain their old college times which have long since passed them by.

If you can honestly see a comparison between your "alumni experience" to what Lynn Cheney has done to support KAT, then clearly your parallel structure needs work.

And, if you think that this is what alumni/alumnae are for, then you need to seriously recheck your organization's (and your own) standards and ideals.

As an aside from the main part of the thread - which part of the post did you find offensive? Was it his word choice ('titty bar'), or the fact that he went to a strip club?

Neither, to my mind, seem particularly offensive - neither feels particularly high-brow either, but that's not the issue.

Either way - seems very subjective to declare him evil for doing what he likes to do . . .

of course you can have some fun....the thread is titled-"...cool alumni" --- so if your alum taking you to a titty bar is cool--then by all means post it!!!!

and as far as a titty bar--or getting lap dances being offensive---well in my opinion That's Life!!! Just going and watching some girl dance topless truly never hurt anyone--it may piss a few woman off--but truly hurt someone--nope!!

So Stan, you enjoy your titty bars with your alums--maybe one day you will be the "cool alum" that takes the undergrads there!!!

:)

edited because my quote didn't work the first time!!!

Ah, Stan, I see you are once again stepping into the cow potty!

Shit for those that dont know Kansas Terms!

What is wrong with Stan going to a TATA Bar?

It was not his Fault, but Brothers Much older whom led him astray!

For one who Broke int the Bio Lab for a test, the Boobas are nothing but mammory glands that give food to the young!

Now, while some have larger Glands than some, it is a matter of prespective!

Do they sag, drag, or are perky morsals for young men to lust on!

Now whether Stan is an Over sexed moronic imbicle, Yes He is!

Now What is your point?

If you realize, there is prunning for all of the ANIMAL Kingdom!

But also, the male of the species is the MAIN TOP DOG, Cat, Or Bird!

What Warm bodied Animal do you know that the male is not the one with the plumeage?

Why do he do that!?

Because, he wants to get laid!

Stan, Good Luck, just dont get married!

The Female of the species are the Paranni of the Food Chain!

I do not want to get flamed by all of the female species on site!

Pick a spokespersom to lambast me K !
:D

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't you a Theta Phi Alpha? If so, y'all have Terry Mewhausen (sp!), who was a Miss America and is/was a co-host of the 700 Club. Not shabby! :)

As for our alumnae, the one thing I've heard was when Francine Neff was Treasurer of the United States. At the ADPi Convention that year, she personally signed a dollar bill for everyone in attendance!

I personally find the reference to a "titty bar" offensive, however I would have no problem if he simply referred to it as a strip club. i find offensive the terminology, not the action.

Stan, I'm glad you had fun with your alum. Our alum will take members out when they come to visit too, and the sisters who are old enough to go have a great time..
