Thurgood Marshall
Please consider making a contribution to the Thurgood
Marshall Scholarship Fund. In 1987 – exactly 20 years from his historic appointment – the name Thurgood Marshall would again become associated with a pivotal event. In the absence of a national effort to support exceptional merit scholars attending America's Historically Black Public Colleges and Universities, the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund was established. Today, 45 schools are member colleges and universities of the Fund. TMSF provides funds to member institutions to help students matriculate. While UNCF is a worthwhile organization and deserves our support, its funds do not get directly students. UNCF funds help defray operational and infrastructure costs of its member schools. Like Justice Marshall, a pioneer who rose to greatness despite tremendous obstacles, the Fund is a merit-based scholarship program to assist students who have demonstrated a commitment to education in spite of their own challenges. To date, the Thurgood Marshall Scholarship Fund has awarded more than $14.2 million in scholarships. More than 200 Thurgood Marshall Scholars have graduated and are making valuable contributions to science and technology, government, human service, business, education and to various communities thanks to the support they received from the Fund.
