Love, Honor, Truth...

Alright, you guys might have discussed this previously, but i just tripped over it, so I'll throw it out there....

Sigma Nu Fraternity for Men also uses the phrase, "Love, Honor, Truth" on their website, and this sounds just sort of familiar...

"To believe in the life of Love, To walk in the way of Honor, To serve in the light of Truth -- this is the Life, the Way, and the Light of Sigma Nu -- this is the Creed of our Fraternity"

I'm not trying to say that they stole it from us or anything... it just caught my eye. And they were established after us (1868)... Did i miss something in Phi class?! Lol, detective Alicia here and all lol. I'm just causing trouble :p

Let me know whatcha all think...

I'm a Sigma Nu guy!

Hahahaha. I was just showing some of the guys the Phi Mu creed saying "Hey! Doesn't that sound familiar?" lol

Since our fraternity was founded after your sorority it does seem interesting. Oh well, the guys who started our fraternity were at the Virginia Military Institute, and on top of that they started us off as a secret society, so I'm assuming they weren't talking to girls very much at the time hahaha. So it could be coincidence, but we'll never know!

Wish you guys had a chapter at our school I heard your sorority is really great!

I think the OP will be ok with the swerve. This 3-post thread (well, now 4-post) started in 2002. :p

LOL. I didn't catch that. With just two posts, I figured it had to be a new thread.

That verbiage is more common that you think. It's referenced in our initiation ceremony, but of course, I'm not going to tell which organization I'm in. I'll just say it's not phi mu or sigma nu. Alot of organizations make mention to love, honor and truth.

And you know this because . . . ?

In any event, while I wouldn't be surprised that numerous orgs "make mention" of similar virtues, there is a difference between making mention of these virtues and having the same three virtues, in the same order, as a creed.

As I said 9 years (good Lord) ago.

Quote:

Our Creed was first presented in 1907 by Walter James Sears (the author). He was affiliated with both Ohio State and Kansas. It was revised and adopted in 1918.
Perhaps that would be helpful information?
