Creating a budget

I'm not sure if this belongs in the chit-chat thread but I figure money should be included with career & employment.

I am going to put myself on a budget for next semester. I want to start saving for a rainy day, future, etc. I'm not going to deprive myself of everything but some things like magazines (I buy to many); I'm just going to subscribe to my fav and save money. Clothes: Since it really cold and winter time. I'm not going to buy anymore bar clothes until it warms up (plus I still have shirts that I haven't worn yet). Also, if there is something I want I'm going to save for it instead of just buying it. I'm going to place atleast 5-10% of my pay check into my saving account and place the rest into my checking account. So far that all I can come up with.

Have you created a budget or savings plan? and Do you have anymore tips for saving?

Thanks
Annice

annice: Are you a student or out in the working world? If you are working a "real" job, I'd suggest putting some of your paycheck into a retirement fund. Maybe you cannot afford to do it now (I can't either, so I sympathize), but I read the other day that if people in their 20's start putting away $1000 a year and continue to do so, they'll have $110,500 by the time they retire. That will buy a sweet condo in FL! :)

I'm a student and thanks to buying a new formal dress a broke one. But I still have my job at school for atleast this week until I go home for winter break. This budget I'm setting for myself will be for next semester.

Another tip I got from one of my sorority sisters is to recycle my formal dresses so I don't have to keep buying them for different occasions.

Trading formal dresses works too......I know there was one dress is our house that went to about 5 formals. :) I don't know if you buy any groceries for yourself, but when I wanted to save some cash, I quit buying soda. Might only add up to $5 a week, but hey! it's 5 more that you can put away for clothes.
