Question from Prospective Alum Intiate
Hi from a newbie! :)
I'm interested in alum initiation. I was wondering if any Alpha Phis who went through alum initiation would mind telling me the steps you went through during the process? I've contacted the alum chapter in my area, and have been invited to an alum Christmas party next week. I'm a little nervous, and not sure what to expect! Once I contact them and have met a few more members, what happens next? Thanks everyone! |
Welcome, Sistermadly.
There's a growing crew of us around here in a similar boat re: alum inits. Best of luck in your pursuit! Adrienne :) |
Valkyrie is an A-Phi who is an alum anitiate, as well as cutiepatootie. They are my newest GC sisters! :) Best of luck with your pursuit of alumnae initiation!

The steps i went through were pretty straight forward. I contacted EO in May after doing PLENTY of research of all groups who performed Alum iniatations and reading and listening to others on here going through the same process as well as reading all the national websites i knew of to get a feel of which group i wanted to pursue this dream of mine with. I decided to get off the fence so to speak and did something about it. I narrowed the level of my playing field down to Alpha Phi after weighing through another org that as well had AI in place. I sent two letters that i skillfully wrote to both groups and that same day....literally SAME DAY got response back from both groups. Now mind you, all the time i loved both groups but Alpha Phi was standing out above all to me. Malenie Keller at EO said she was sending my email to the local alum chapter president and no kidding 3 hrs later i got a reply back from both the president and the VP of the chapter. They invited me the following week to a Ceramic party. Let me tell you my nerves were so intense ,BUT the moment i met them ...Instant connection! We all hit it off well and my sponser( my big) had the form to fill out with her that night. I have been told i am the fastest alum initate to go through the process so quickly in this area. I was suppose to initate with the coll chapter that next month but the mail fouled it up. Either way i have been initated since November and i have never been happier. I went to college down south in a traditional southern school with at that time 12 national NPC sororities on campus. My age and grades were my three strikes so to speak. I have always wanted to pursue AI ever since Arkansas and i came back home here to Southern California and never thought it would happen. This site has been my saving grace moreless because if it wasn't for me "lurking" and reading others success stories and gaining the confidence to do this i wouldn't be where i am today. This site and the ppl on it are truly caring and supportive ppl i have met. A lot fo them had to hand hold me through this wait and see process to get to last month... but for the most part it was easy. the best advice i can give you or anyone pursuing this is to be yourself and be opened minded. If your at ease ,everyone else will be too. Every AI story is different but in the end the waiting and anticipation is all worth it! GOOD LUCK!:) Laura:) |
Thanks for your reply, cutiepatootie!
I contacted three groups in this area, and it took awhile for one of the groups to contact me. The woman who did put me off the group right away because she had some negative things to say about the alumnae group in town. I figured if she would say something like that to a prospective, that it didn't speak very highly of the sisterly bonds in that chapter. :( I contacted Alpha Phi and another organization on the same day, and like you, got responses on the same day. Right now I'm keeping my options open, but every time I read more about Alpha Phi, and every time I meet a new Alpha Phi, I start to think "this is where I belong!" I didn't join a sorority as an undergraduate for a lot of different reasons, but mostly I was busy with other student activities, and had lots of friends so I just didn't see the need for a sorority at the time. Then I moved thousands of miles away from home to a place where I didn't know anyone. That's when I realized how important sororities are, so I decided to give AI a try. That's amazing that you were asked to fill in the form the same night! Oh, if I could only be so lucky! The Alpha Phi that I met with last week kept using terms like "when you're initiated" and "you won't be initiated until the spring", and she told me that she thought I'd fit in really well with their group, but I don't want to read too much into that, you know? I'd hate to get my heart broken. Anyway, thanks for sharing your story! I'm so glad that you had a happy ending. I hope I get to share a happy ending, too. :) I'm curious - when did you tell the other group that you were no longer interested? |
Let me tell you...
That goes for me too...PM me if you have any questions.
Valkyrie and I were "lurkers" before we made any attempts from what it sounds like!:) and we both found this board by coincidence.....the rest was history. Let's face it we are the epitomy of coolness! hehehe If this sounded really strange i would not tell anyone what group i was interested in and i would not even post much because i felt i would jinx it. I told the other group right away. I didnt want to make ppl believe i was interested when i was 100% sure i wanted to be in Alpha Phi. Ever since that moment this was the best decision i ever made in my life. I am sooo glad i pursued it and i am sooooooo very glad i have a wonderful group of sisters and a legacy of exceptional woman who founded this wonderful organization. Whatever decision you make i wish you much luck and hope your decision is to pursue AI with Alpha Phi!:) there can never be enough AI's in ALpha Phi!:):) Laura |
Valkyrie - Thanks for sharing your story, too! I love hearing stories like this. I read something about an alumnae initiation thread, but I checked that forum and couldn't find it.
Like Valkyrie, I'm a little shy, and I'm nervous about walking into this party all by myself. Maybe I'll ask the woman I had coffee with to meet me so I won't walk in alone. cutiepatootie - I feel like I've jinxed myself already by expressing my interest in Alpha Phi so publicly! Maybe I should just be quiet from this point on.. hee hee. :) I'm definitely leaning toward Alpha Phi - if they'll have me. Thanks for being so helpful! |
Woo hoo!! I hope that you have a wonderful time at the Christmas party this upcoming week. Of course, I am sure that you will have a great time. :)

Thanks SATX*APhi! I'll be sure to tell everyone all about it!
