What does it take to be a National Sorority?
I am a member of a great local sorority. Someday we hope to become a new national sorority, and I was just wondering what are the qualifications to become nationally recognized.
Thanks, Tally |
The qualifications vary from group to group and it depends if you want to be a national affiliated with the NPC or some other nationally recognized group.
The first question to you would be, are there any national groups on campus already. If so, you would need to contact the local Panhellenic council and get their approval to bring another NPC sorority to campus. If they approve, they will contact the NPC, who in turn, contacts the NPC groups not represented on your campus. A series of presentation and interviews will occur and it may be that one or more groups want your sorority to become their colony. You would vote to accept them and begin the colony process. You would be guided by alumnae and national officers and you would be assigned goals for membership, academics, philanthropy and finances. if there are currently no national groups on your campus, contact your Student Affairs office and tell them of your desire to affiliate with a national sorority. It could be that your campus does not allow national affiliation, but if they do, you'll need campus approval. The campus would then contact the NPC on your behalf and the interview/presentation process would begin. It would be helpful if you had an idea of which group(s) interest you the most. You can get info on the NPC and all 26 member fraternities by visiting the NPC website: http://www.greeklife.org/npc ------------------ Fraternally, Barbara If you have to go around telling everyone you're in charge you're not much of a leader. |
