HeLp!!
I have been considering joining a sorority next year...but have no idea what they are all about. At my college, the options are: Chi Omega, Delta Delta Delta,Delta Gamma, Delta Sigma Theta, Kappa Alpha Theta, Kappa Delta, and Kappa Kappa Gamma. I'd love to hear from anyone that's a member of any..to maybe help me decide which, if any is right for me. Also, I dont drink (religious reason etc) and was wondering if/how that might be a problem.

On a national level, all sororities promote sobriety. If the chapter you are thinking about joining insists on you drinking, it's not the group for you. They should respect your religious convictions.
My suggestion to you is to visit the national web sites for all the sororities on your campus. Research their history, mission and goals. Compare what you learn to what you see when attending Rush. That will help you decide which group lives up to their national office, and your, expectations. You can't decide which group to join until you go through the Recruitment process. You will be required to visit all the NPC sororities on your chosen campus. The NPHC sororities (those designated as historically African-American, such as Delta Sigma Theta), conduct their intake process and new member education periods much differently than the NPC sororities. For more information on Rush, please visit this website: http://panhellenic.tripod.com and click on the link for Sorority Rush FAQ. ------------------ Fraternally, Barbara Zeta Tau Alpha Alumna If you have to go around telling everyone you're in charge you're not much of a leader. |
I am a Tri Delta and I would love to tell about my wonderful sorority. We are a great bunch of girls--very diverse, smart, fun, and know how to have a great time. I have made some wonderful friends, the kind of friendships that I know will last forever. I would also like to tell you that many of my sisters do not drink (I really do not drink either) and that is fine. The one who chose not to drink are NEVER made fun of, or harassed. It is up to the individual as to how they would like to act. We also do not haze, so no worries there either. I love Tri Delta and I think that you should give it a try if what I have said to you interests you at all. Good Luck during rush.

I recently pledged a sorority myself, through informal recruitment. The most important advice I can give you is to check out all the chapters at your school, and attend the one you fit the best in. Not every house is great for everyone, and what is good for one person, may not be good for another. Take the time to find the house that you feel you belong at. You want a house where you can from that sisterhood that is the basis of a sorority.

I wish I had more advise for you, but everyone else has put it well...pick a sorority that you feel comfortable with and that you can be yourself with. Good luck

i'm also a tri-delta and i can tell you that just from reading what other delts have to say about their chapters, you can't judge a sorority as a whole. They are SO SO different from school to school. the delts at my school are HUGE partiers but also have really high gpa's. it all depends on the school.
