Honorary GLO's

I did a search on this and couldn't find anything helpful, so I am hoping members of honorary GLO's can help me out.

What exactly do honorary GLO's do? I know many of them have a GPA requirement, but I was wondering if they do things like fundraisers, community/university service projects, have regular meetings and things like that?

There are some honorary GLO's on my campus and I'm curious to know what it is like because I think it might be neat to join one.

Thanks for your help :)

I am a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History). Basically we were an 'extension' of the History Club. We socialized (Rock 'n' Bowl, out to bars drinking, Christmas Party, etc) and sat around and discussed history (ie the French). We also helped with the National History Day event as well as speakers, and I believe a scholarship or two.

What is an honory GLO?

As You can see, I am the only one to answer your question!

But, I am a sucker for a pretty face!:)

I only know of a few. My cousin's a member of PSA, which is a political science honours society. I don't think their members do much, as he and his class were inducted just before he graduated. On my campus we have chapters of HSF, LS, PSA Mortar Board, FBK and PKL. HSF is an honours society for Latin and Greek scholars. As far as I know, people of any year can be inducted. They help with Classics week every spring. LS is a sophomore honours society; members are inducted at the end of their freshman year and they do quite a bit in terms of campus/community service and fundraising. Mortar Board is more or less the same, but it's for seniors. Along with campus/community service, they sponsor a lecture series. As for FBK and PKL, they're both groups for outgoing seniors (PKL is an honours society for music majors), so they don't really do much on campus.

Hope this helps a little...

I am also a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History), however I was inducted right before I graduated. I know on my campus they are also an offshoot of the history club. They put on campus history related activities, like a civil war reenactment. They also hold an annual awards banquet at the end of the year.

Hope this helps a little!

Hmm... This history major thinks that maybe she should look into starting a chapter of FAQ at her school...

I'm a member of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an Economics honorary...we're an offshoot of the Economics club, we are basically just like NHS for collegians who are outstanding econ. students.

I was a member of Psi Chi, an honorary organization for psychology students. We did not do very much! Looks good on the resume though!

I'm a member of Psi Chi, too. Most of what we do is career development stuff - how to get into grad school, what to do with a BA in psych, stress management, etc. It's a good organization to join if you're looking for guidance.

I wanted to give a little bit of info about my organization, Phi Sigma Pi. Phi Sigma Pi is part social fraternity, part service fraternity and part honor society. We are a part of all three types of organizations! We were founded on a tripod of scholarship, leadership and fellowship. So I get a little bit of each type of organization!

I am also a member of Psi Chi as well!
