"Severino Antinori, an Italian gynecologist, says that the first cloned baby will be born in seven weeks.

He won't say who the mother is or offer any evidence of the baby, but he is part of a group of doctors who announced last year that they would try to clone humans.

The announcement drew criticism from religious groups, including the Vatican which has condemned the "unnatural" creation of life. German newspapers likened him to Adolf Hitler. Both Italy and the U.S. have a ban on human cloning, and experts dismiss Antinori's claim."

What are your opinions concerning this matter?
Should we applaud their efforts to create life or punish them for "playing God"?

Technology is fine if it helps us live a higher quality of life, but this is getting really scary. :(

The purpose of science is solely for the pursuit of knowledge-- to no end.
The question is not whether or not this type of research has a valuable purpose, because it does not need one. My question is, with the problems we already have with over-population do we need anymore people right now?

Also, what is the point of cloning humans? Clones are exact replicas in every way-- except personality, and reason-the types of things that we typically use to separate the quality of human life from instincts in animals. And, if you are a clone of someone who has lived before you, how good can your quality of life be if you have to forever live in the shadow of someone else? Are you, you, or are you really them? :confused: Okay, well, I've thoroughly confused myself. I guess, all I can say is...
