AKA Queens - - WTF?
WTF is this bullcrap? Have y'all seen this? It was on Delphi and I had to bring it over here. Instead of the term "Sorors", they call each other "Froros"!!!
I've heard of MiAKA's, but this AKA Queens is a whole new load of mess. --------------------------------------------------------------- From: BOOTEELISHUS@collegeclub.com Subject: ATTENTION ALL A.K.A.'S TO ALL THE LOVELY LADIES OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA: I am writing this letter to hopefully clear some of the air between your sisterhood and mine. My name is DeAndre' and i am a member of ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA QUEENS, (the organization of homosexual males inspired by Alpha Kappa Alpha). I have read several emails on several sites regarding our elite organization and after long thought I have decided to reach out an "IVY VINE" if you will as a peace offering for those of you whom disapprove of our actions, and organization. In no way do we intend to disgrace you or your organization, we have used the standards set by your organization to create one of our own. I have admired Alpha Kappa Alpha for as long as I can remember, obvious due to genetic i will never be able to officially be one. A.K.A. QUEENS was created for homosexual males such as myself to serve the community, build bridges to a brighter future, and fulfill the dreams of ourancestors. We are not just a group of sissies who have nothing better to do than just go around SKEE WEE-ing, wearing PINK AND GREEN... etc. I personally am a PRE_MED student with a 3.8 G.P.A., and am also involved in various school, church, and community organizations. No matter what your view is on "HOMOSEXUALITY", or what you may think; I did not ask to be, nor choose to be GAY. I just am, believe it or not. I have, along with my fellow "FROROS", have a great deal of respect for all GREEK organizations... especially Alpha Kappa Alpha. I hope that I did not offend anyone in this e-mail, but i just felt a need to try to be understood... For those who I did offend I apologize dearly. Thank you for your time, and please feel free too respond as i am sure you will. Sincerely, De Andre' Xavier Martin Miss BOOTYCIOUS SPRING 2000 P. SKEE WEE: In the ALPHA of time GOD made man, he then from his ribs created what is known today as woman. In 1908 he perfected that vision of woman and said, "She shall be called A.K.A." 80 years later he then decided to make man her equal... He gave them advance knowledge, an extreme since of style, and the strength to accept the things they cannot change, the courage to change the things they can, and the wisdom to recognize the two... And He then said, "With these gifts i send you into the world the reign supreme... to be known as The ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA QUEEN." |

This was bound to happen. I often wondered if gays would start their own fraternity/sorority, but this is entirely different. |
Calling for a search, please.
This has been discussed before. The thread got out of hand, and it was locked.

http://www.kpsik.org/national/album.html Did they really think that AKA wouldn't have a problem with that? Did they really need to use someone else's name? Some people are just looking for trouble... |

Steeltrap,
I thought AKA Queens are RuPaul-esqe men who want to BE AKA's. |
I don't get the homosexual men "inspired" by AKAs in the first paragraph of "his" letter.
This is waaaay too much. How could AKA have "inspired" such a thing? |
Well.....

That email circulated around collegeclub.com quite a few times last year. I've had three different people forward it to me with responses. I don't remember all of the details but these "queens" use all of AKA's symbols and claim to know the real meaning of them. One of them said that their founder was the brother of an AKA chapter president. Somehow or another, he got access to all of her information and then founded the queens.
It was quite an interesting and amusing discussion when it happened. I wish that I still had some of the emails so that I could post it straight from the horse's mouth. |
So
LOL and all I can say - Stacy remind me to bring this up tonight as I get me dring on.:p

For a long time now, I've been a silent spectator on GC, but after reading the post which contained the email from DeAndre "Miss BOOTYCIOUS SPRING 2000" Martin, I felt compelled to post my 85 cents. As a gay man of color, who belongs to a fraternity created for gay men of color, I take great offense to Mr. Martin and his organization. In recent years, there has been an influx of fraternal organizations created by and for gay and lesbian people, due to the homophobia faced by those who wish to experience the joys of "traditional" Greekdom. Mr. Martin and his "organization" only serves to undermine the honorable efforts of these new groups to serve a previously ignored segment of the population. To say that the AKA Queens were "inspired" by Alpha Kappa Alpha is believable. Alpha Kappa Alpha is a great organization that has done a great deal in the area of community service. However, it is unacceptable for him to ILLEGALLY use the name and/or registered trademarks of AKA. He claims that they mean no disgrace, but the very act is a disgrace against AKA and its members, who have actually EARNED the right to wear those letters. It is also definitely true that the members of this group are the sons, brothers, friends of AKAs, therefore, it is easy for them to gain access to supposedly restricted information.
I have seen these men in clubs, stepping and skee-weeing, and contrary to his statement, they ARE just a group of sissies who have nothing better to do, because no decent, self-respecting gay man of color would belong to such a group. The name "Ms. Bootycious" says it all, doesn't it??? He claims to be a Pre-Med student, yet his email is riddled with spelling and grammatical errors. Perhaps he should spend a little more time on his books. As I stated, I belong to a legitimate fraternity, Delta Phi Upsilon. It irks me that we have to struggle to attract and reach gay men of color, and "organizations" like Mr. Martin's have no problems recruiting. It is because of people like him and his "froros" (what the heck is that?)that negative stereotypes exist about gay people. Mr. Martin, do us all a favor: join a medical fraternity. I'm sure they exist. Anyway, I think I've used up my 85 cents now. |
