What's the ideal background for President, Governor, or Senator?
In light of recent and upcoming elections.

Educated enough to know what's going on and be able to express yourself competantly.
Honest enough to stand up for what you believe in and what your constituents put you in office for. Other than that I could care less. |
Aside from the usual qualities (like intelligence and stuff) I would really like to see candidates who have faced some sort of adversity in life and have overcome it. For example, I'd like to see more canditates who are not from wealthy backgrounds, or who are not your typical political type -- you know, the rich white guy who's never had to worry about anything in his life.
I also wouldn't mind someone who has experimented with drugs. In fact, I think it's a plus. I don't think that good public speaking skills are required. Chicago's mayor is one of the most awkward speakers I've ever heard, but I think it's kind of charming. |
For state politics, I'd like to see someone from a blue collar and college educated background. Military service would be a plus also.
For President, someone who has come from a very strong ethical voting record in previous political endeavors with as few ties to big business and special interest groups as possible. |
I wish there was a way to bring back Bill Clinton. I liked him.

I also want someone who is college educated, has a family background and is relatively middle of the road with conservative leanings. Now, here's where i break from party lines. I want someone who is concerned about the state of our open space. Even if it's only nominal support to protect hunting and fishing areas, i think more efforts need to be made to protect and develop our park and forest lands in more ecologically substainable methods. <steps down off of soapbox> Kitso KS 361 |
Miltary background is always nice, as well as expirience as maybe a state senator first. I always look for expirience even over party affiliation when voting since the third party candidates get 3% of the vote usually.
