national philanthropys
I was curious if any sororities (or fraternities) support battered women/families shelters as a national philanthropy.

Yes, Alpha Chi Omega's national philanthrophy is supporting the victims of domestic violence. During recruitment, we have a philanthropy night where we decorate paper bags with designs and fill them with toiletries that were donated by companies. We also do the "clothesline project" where we decorate paper t-shirts with slogans against domestic violence and hang them in the main commons on a "clothesline" where everyone can read them. We also used to do a presentation/lesson about how to defend ourselves if we are attacked. This isn't meant to be used like a professionally trained person, just some basic moves to protect ourself against an abusive person. Sisters also volunteer at local abuse centers.
This philanthropy is very important to my chapter and sorority. Glad you asked! http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif www.alphachiomega.org |
Alpha Chi Omega. During the Philanthropy round of Rush, we made goody bags for the women and children in the nearby homeless shelter. I'm sure there are more groups whose philanthropy is working against domestic violence.
