Hey Everyone ~
What is your favorite/most interesting/best class you've ever taken? What made you take this class? Were you just looking in the course book and stumbled upon it? Did someone clue you into it?
My favorite class -
Religion and Society
Everyday as we're walking into lecture, my professor plays a thought provoking song from who he considers the god of music - bob dylan - and somehow during lecture he relates them to relgion, society and everyday life. I took this class basically b/c i figured its a religion class, how hard can it be? lol http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif its actually a difficult but thought provoking class - but i love it. I've learned all about the different religions of the world and i feel so much more informed!

My favorite class has to be VIVA LAS VEGAS! I'm taking it from the best professor ever. Some of the movies/novels/articles we've read about so far: THE RAT PACK, VIVA LAS VEGAS, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Honeymoon in Vegas, Leaving Las Vegas, Casino, BUGSY, Showgirls, Rugrats' Viva Slots Vegas. We haven't had anything to turn in yet. Our midterm paper was due on April 16th, but because of the strike she's extending it till May 7th. It's classes like this that I don't mind attending on Saturdays. She's brought in her portable gambling stuff to class and she's been teaching us how to play Craps, Roulette, Blackjack, Slots, and Poker...since they'll all be on the final.

This summer I'll be taking America's Television History from the same prof. She also plays a song before class. One day she brought her daughter to class and she insisted on playing Aaron Carter http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/mad.gif . She was a hippie in the 1960s as a student at UC-Berkeley. I can't wait to get my general education requirements over and done with so that i can start taking the fun classes!

Ohh good question. I have two weight training (spoken like a true athlete) but my teach was also my coach, and he made the class really fun. Second class was philosophy, this was such an awesome class it made yuo question things that u prob. would have never questioned before, and because my profes was a little looney, http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/biggrin.gif it made the class even more challeneging, cause you got to hear other peoples opinons and actual debate it out . IT was well worth taking, and even worth all the papers I had to write http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif oh and to answer the other questions, I was really only taking it to take it, at the time I needed the credits.

Id say that for me the best class I have taken so far is business law 1. The prof was absolutely awsome, made all kinda jokes and stuff! It was an awsome class, the best part... Hed answer massive amounts of questtions on the tests! Ive never had any sort of teacher before that would straight out tell you if you were right or wrong on test questions, during the test, id have to say that it was the best class ive had so far. Although I am looking at taking a Golf class and Im sure that would most likely repace it if I ever took it.

My favorite lecture classes were from American Civilization (I'm a regretful non-concentrator, although that may change). I had one on "Houses and Furnishings in Early America" (I could SO be on Antiques Roadshow after being in that class!) which was AMAZING. We went on some neat field trips, including one to the oldest house in Rhode Island. At the end of the class, we had to submit original research on some aspect of American houses/furniture/decorative arts.

The other was "The Automobile in American Life". Where else could one discuss (with a straight face) the idea of the automakers to make the backseats larger to allow for hanky panky? We watched "American Grafitti" and had to read articles from Lowrider Magazine.

I know this is kind of an old thread, but I really like this question! So far my favorite class has been International Relations. The prof. and the TA (yeah it was a HUGE class) were both awesome! I had to take the class because it was a major requirement, but I didn't mind at all. My favorite class I ever took was a Junior level history class I took my freshman year about Women in Islam. It was part history, part sociology. We had all sorts of guest speakers who explained different things to us like what it is like to be Christian and living in a Muslim society and a man who had seven wives. It was just a fascinating class and the professor was amazing.
The second to that was Intro to American Government. A simply class that everyone has to take, but I took a section taught by the president of our university, David Boren, who was a senator for 16 years so he taught the class and told us tons of stories and it was a great class

A tie between my AIDS/Emerging Diseases class ('cause I'm a big Bio nerd), and my study of sexualities class ('cause it really is an interesting topic to explore society's views of different sexualities and how and why they formed, etc).

We had a really great guest speaker in my Bio class - a woman came and told us about her experience with getting HIV and living with it for 16 years. She contracted it in 1985 from her husband, who had contracted it years earlier from drug experimentation...she was pregnant when she found out, and she lost her husband and her daughter to AIDS within two years of each other. I started crying while she was speaking and I had to go give her a hug and thank her after class, it was all I thought about for the rest of the day. She was an amazing inspiration.

My favorite class that I am taking is Science and Society. It's primarily a class for non-science majors but anyone can take it for a gen ed elective. My sorority's faculty advisor actually teaches it. He is also a professor in the department I'm in. I knew about the class when I came to college and I recommended it to a friend who was looking for a science class. She absolutely loved the class. I had no intentions of taking the class basically because I thought that I was "above" the other students (being the science major that I am...lol). Then I found that I needed to fill a spot on my Tuesday and Thursday schedule so I added the class. It's actually turned out to be the most thought provoking class I've ever taken. We are encouraged as students to think outside of the box and to participate fully in discussions. We have watched movies on modern day plagues such as malaria, ebola, and AIDS. Another movie was about stem cell reserach and cloning. We have talked about biowarfare, patients' rights, and some other really interesting topics. On top of that we have weekly readings that deal with current topics in science, government, religion, and various other topics. I will hate to see the semester end because I'm actually enjoying going to this class.

Best class ever would have to be my History of the Presidency class this semester - it's with Robert Dallek, who's one of the foremost experts on the U.S. presidency. He's an unbelievable lecturer, and the stories he has out of experience (meeting various Presidents, etc.) are so cool. It's my favorite class to go to, always extremely interesting.

As far as professors, my journalism professor now is awsome. He was an editor for the Boston Globe, and is the quintessential "Crotchety old editor" type. He's funny as hell to listen to - one of those guys who just gets so frustrated and angry over every little thing. It's just hilarious. Plus, he's got so many connections, he got most of us internships within the first week.

My favorite class ever was Public Speaking. It helped me overcome my fear and share my talents with over 40 people! I had an awesome grad school teacher and she was a real sweetheart!
This semester I will be taking a greek life class so that I can be a moderater in the fall of 2002. I am really looking forward to it.

My favorite class in undergrad was GIS (Geographic Information Systems). It was just the right blend of environmentalism and nerdiness (we make maps from census, satilite or other data).

I had two favorite classes in law school. The first was Civil Procedure my first semester. I think my love of Civ Pro was based on my professor, Erwin Chemerinsky. For those who watch him on t.v. regularly, know that he is the nicest, most inspirational professor to ever haunt the halls of any law school.

The second was my Maritime Law. I worked for a maritime law firm for a while in law school and was fascinated by how the law has not changed in so long.

Favorite class for me was World Terrorism. I had an ex-FBI agent who was our professor and he was really good. We covered the purpose of terrorism, the psychology behind it, the m.o. that groups use, and the various events that have shaped our history. Very fascinating class. I remember he showed us field photos(slide shows) from various events and groups. I remember one that was in Ireland that had a mural of an IRA guy and a PLO guy shaking hands with M16s. Sort of ironic how that class relates to what is going on with our country today. My second favorite was abnormal psychology where our professor would tell us tons of stories. The section he covered on the anti-social personality, or psychopath was really good.

My favorite class was basic floral design. It sounds cheesy but it was great to have a course with no worries. Plus we got to keep our arrangements each week, so I had fresh flowers all semester!
