How to improve our reputation?
 

HI,

Does anyone know how to inmprove a chapter's reputation? Because my chapter needs help it seems like most of the fraternities or big frats on campus don't seem like we're cool enough to have mixers with. There is a six way mixer going on with AST's, Pikes, lamba chi's, SAE's, DZ's. and ZTA's. We were not even considered to be invited. Also, I think our social chair did not try hard enough to get us mixer this semester. I am going to try and run for social chair next semester. However, today I talked with one of the SAE's see if we could have a pre-party on Thursday after thanksgiving and he said that they would like to party with us and he gave me their social's phone number to call to set it up.

My question is does anyone have any advice or suggestions that would help our chapter's reputation on campus? I really want our name to get out there. We have done alot this semester we won #1 overall during Homecoming plus one of our girl's won Homecoming Queen. So, I'm not really sure why we still have the reputation from years ago. Is it our chapter's job, public relations, scribe, social chair, or all of the above for getting our chapter's reputation up? I know that it takes time to improve a campus rep.

I would say try to come up with REALLY different ideas for social functions - ideas that make you stand out from the other sororities. we have an amazing social chair this semester and she did an awesome job with putting together events that were different and making the best fraternities on this campus offers they couldnt refuse. once you get your foot in the door, i am sure it will pave the way to better relationships with the other houses. if you need some of our ideas, PM me, they all worked out really well!

Seems to me like you are well on the way to improving your rep just by what you've been doing....but TALK ABOUT the great things your chapter and it's members have done/are doing to ANYONE WHO WILL LISTEN !!! It's not just one person's responsibility to improve the rep, although a good public relations rep can help spread the word about the good things you are doing.
Social wise... Just keep calling and calling and calling... and have ideas in mind for themes and what to do when you call. If you have some idea and help plan and call them and say "we would like to hold a _____ social with your fraternity on _____ date..." you're much more likely to get a response/have an event than if you call and say.. "our houses need to have a social" :D

Thank you ladies for all of your advice. I think it will be helpful for the remainder of the semester and next semester. I really want my chapter to thrive and be popular too. We are a great chapter with a great group of girls we just have to work harder.

Okay, you know what. . .you don't ALWAYS have to have a mixer with a Greek. Our sorority recently did a mixer with the Christian Student Fellowship. Just because we were TIRED of our Greeks. It gave us a chance to improve our relationship with other non-Greeks and people to see Greeks in a different life.

IN FACT, a CSF member ended up joining our sorority. And we're constantly recruiting through non-Greek members.

As for the other Greeks, try not to let on that you don't really mind not being invited. And if you guys need some social ideas, email me. I'm chockful of some.

I don't know how much you will like this advice, but it worked for us... My chapter was known as the ugly fat girls. Everyone always said we were nice, but we were fat and ugly and people didn't want to have socials with us. Granted, many of our alum are larger women, our current chapter has very beautiful girls in it. I'm the president and was talking to one of the frats about having a social with us. He was kind of giving me the run around and I could tell that he wasn't overly excited. So I just looked at him and was like, "haven't you heard about us? We really know how to party! Our socials are guaranteed to have the best food around" and he started laughing and lightened up and we made plans for the social. The day after the social, I heard soooo much talk about us, from other people. Supposedly, the fraternity was so impressed with our chapter because we're hot, we don't have attitudes, and we all have great senses of humor! They've already requested another next semester! I think the key to improving your reputation is being aware and able to joke about your current one. If you get upset everytime someone says something, its not going to fix anything. But if you can joke about it, people will respect that. Also, I completely agree with having original ideas. That will make them remember and respect you even more!
