Any actors out there?

I do a lot of community theatre and was wondering if there are any other actors out there. Come on, all you theatre trash ( no disrespect intended; that's just what we call each othe here.) I recently appeared in Arsenic and Old Lace ( for the second time - same rol, but different theatre) and am now in rehearsal for It's a Wonderful Life.

Gotta love being on stage!

You need to get him to do one of those aftershave commercials with you lounging around in an oversized shirt of his feeling all cozy.

Everyone but me in our immediate family either now acts or has acted.

Most notable is our oldest daughter who is now rehearsing for Children of Eden. She has been Martha in The Secret Garden three times including once in high school which was a main stage performance at the International Thespian Festival. She was The Baker's Wife in Into the Woods -- and married the guy who played The Baker. He is an actor/director/choreographer working at a lot of local theatres. She has also appeared in a number of other musicals and reviews like Nunsense and Taffetas. Her credits are too lengthy to list.

Our son had several leads in high school productions, including Adam in Children of Eden (Freshman), Puck in Puck's Potion (a remarkably good original musical written as a Master's thesis by two members of the Performing Arts Department at his HS as a Junior) and Ren in Footloose (Senior). He recently played his first role in university theatre in A Little Night Music. He has also been Jack in Into the Woods and Colin in The Secret Garden in community theatre. He also won Solo Vocal Musical Theatre awards at both the Colorado and International Thespian Festivals his Sophomore and Seniors years in High School, and Duet Musical Theatre his Junior year in the Colorado competition. Needless to say, he wants to perform on Broadway.

Mrs. DeltAlum has a Theatre degree and did a lot of high school and college theatre, as well as summer stock work early in our marriage (before kids).

Our middle daughter did high school theatre, but was more interested in athletics.

I'm the only one in the family with absolutely no musical or acting talent.

I have done some theatre. Most recently i was in West Side Story, but i've also been in Jesus Christ Superstar, Bye Bye Birdie, The Sting, Li'l Abner, Arsenic and Old Lace, The Music Man, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and a silly little show called Meet Me At The Prom. I really miss not being in 3 or 4 shows a year.

Wahoo I love the theatre! I've been in "The Night of January 16th," "Once on this Island," "Little Shop of Horrors," "Into the Woods," and I'll be auditioning for (*crosses fingers*) Martha in "The Secret Garden" in December!! I got to play Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth," and Juliette in "Romeo and Juliette" for a Shakespeare convention I attended last summer. I'm hoping to get Ophelia in "Hamlet," or "Titania" in A Midsummer Night's Dream" next summer! I've also done technical theater (scenic design lighting/stagecrew) for "Annie," "Oklahoma!" "Chicago," "Peter Pan," "Rumours," and a random compilation of 1-act plays by Christopher Durang. I'm working in an improv/skit group that's alot of fun as well.

Theatre is life!!

I'm an actor/director. Last thing was Grumio in Taming of the Shrew. I"m now working on piece called "Brush Up Your Shakespere." It rocks. Its an ensamble piece. I get to play a stuffy/hammy actor. It rocks. Cuz even if I overdue it, that still fits the character. Being a character actor rules. Screw the lead parts.

Also, I'm writing a commedia dell Arte piece. :)

I love acting with a passion. It's hard to find a local theater company in this area, though. They actually just opened one north of me I hope to get involved with soon. I've been in two plays..

It's great to find out that there are so many talented people here on GC. Billy, you are right - character actors rule! Those parts are the most fun. I have been in Arsenic & Old Lace, as Martha twice; Harvey as Veta (my fave); Nunsense as Sister Hubert; Mame as Agnes; Oklahoma as Aunt Eller; Plaza Suite as Norma the mother of the bride; and smaller parts in The Music Man, Fiddler on the Roof, The Sound of Music, The Man Who Came to Dinner, You Can't Take It With You; I'm sure I left some out. I also was assistant director for You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Camelot. Dec. 9 I audition for Bus Stop.

One show at a time!!

Is anyone an actor by profession? I mean, do you earn a living acting or is it a hobby?

xo_kathy 11-26-2002 11:55 AM

I'm a dancer by profession. However, the income comes and goes. I usually have to have something else a little more stable to make sure the rent gets paid!
