car stickers - what kind is popular where?
When I lived in Ohio, it seemed that Greeks almost always got spelled-out window stickers for their car. I have an "Alpha Xi Delta" one. But out here in Washington, I almost never see them. It seems like everyone has little Greek letter window stickers. Personally, I prefer the big ones, because they're more obvious and thus better advertising, plus non-Greeks know how to pronounce them. But maybe mine looks gauche and ostentatious to Seattleites!
Actually, that goes for colleges, too - I see "UW" or "WSU" rather than the whole college name, which seems different to me. So what is the standard in your area, and what do you prefer? |
Before UH-Manoa re-did our logo, the most popular decal was the one that had "UNIVERSITY OF HAWAII" that went across the window. Now that we have a new logo, more people have just this:

In flagstaff arizona the main thing to have is the greek letters spelled out, but different alumnae from nationals came and had never seen stickers like that before (they did end up going out and buying there them after they saw them). I think what it really comes down to in my town is there is only one store that sells greek car stickers, and they only carry the spelled out kind. As for the school, you see lots of both NAU and Northern Arizona University stickers.

I have coat of arms :) and one like a travel code witht he letters.

In my area, the two most popular car stickers are the ones that are spelled out or the "I http://www.plaudersmilies.de/herz.gif XYZ" ones.

Pronunciation is very important. However, people still can't get it right. Im sure that you (AZD) must realize this. Our house and yours are the only on our campus with Xi except they are pronounced totally different anyways so good luck with that. Yours is ZEE and ours is Zi. I've heard that sororities pronounce it Zee and fraternities say Zi. Whats the deal with that? I guess we'll never know.

I was shopping at Easton Town Center, here in Columbus, the other day, and I saw a Delta Gamma sticker and a Kappa Kappa Gamma sticker, both spelled out. The Delta Gamma sticker had the greek letters in front and behind the words and the Kappa Kappa Gamma sticker was written out in a pretty, script-type font. I really liked them both:D

The most popular at my school is the white oval with Greek letters in black. (I guess the "travel code" one that Optimist Prime was talking about). A lot of people will also have like "Kappa Delta" spelled out in block letters, and "University of South Florida" in similar block letters underneath or above. License plate frames are also very popular, but you don't want your car to get too busy! One of our sisters has the oval sticker, the spelled out one, and a license plate frame. A bunch of us thought it was way too much, so we asked her to take one of her stickers off! I mean, that 's great that she loves KD that much, but you need to be able to see out of your rearview mirror!

Most of the car stickers I've seen have the Greek letters spelled out. Sometimes for the two-letter GLOs you will see both the letters themselves and the letters spelled out, e.g.
XO Chi Omega XO I want to get one of those white oval stickers that ShaedyKD describes, only I'm probably going to replace my car soon, so I'm holding off - and anyway I've never seen them for sale - maybe some website has them? |

X is the Greek equivalent of the English "X," as in "xylophone" (from the Greek xulofwno, pronounced KSEE-lo-fo-no). |
Around here, one usually sees just the Greek letters (not spelled out), either in gold or in the GLO colors, often with a coat-of-arms decal. Euros (the white oval) with the Greek letters are also becoming popular.

At NCSU most Greeks just have their letters. Nothing spelled out. They will have a big North Carolina State University sticker spelled out then under it have a little sticker with their letters in gold. That's what I have!

We have license plates with our letters on them. Those European style stickers are also very popular.

its different
Some sisters have the letters, some the big one with the words spelled out. I used to have that one but then traded it in for the crest sticker. It mactched my car better.
Whats gaining in popularity here are the oval stickers with really big Greek letters. They are black and grey. I think you've probably seen them. |
