recognized....

have you ever been at a party and some girl (or guy if you are a girl) comes up to you and is like "hey, whats up? how have you been?" and you are like "er?" because you dont remember them. it sucks to be recognized by someone, when you dont remember who they are. has this happened to any of you?

tonight some girl was like "hey zoolander, how are you?" i was like "what the fuck..." she remembered me from halloween when we danced together and hung out...it must have not been that memorable for me.

Yes. For one thing I have a crappy memory when it comes to names, faces and stuff... I'd be more inclined to remember someone if I actually spoke with them about something important.

Happens to me also a lot at work... I see about1000 people a day and each of them expects me to remember the intimate details of our conversations 2 weeks from when they first came in... Reality says hell no.

Also happens around town. I'm on the cable access channel that the University runs doing a newscast that is rebroadcast all day on Tuesdays and Thursdays... I'll be out and totally random people will tell me they know me from TV and stuff. Kind of strange. What am I supposed to say to them:confused:

Know the feeling!!

I see about 160/200 people a day at the shop!

I owned a liquor store for 17 years, was a cop, went to 2 colleges, campaigned for city council, ECT!

People are always coming up and saying Hi Tom How You Doing. ( ? ) who they are is beyond me!

Had one guy come into the liquor store and ask me were'nt you a Cop? My reaction was yes, why did I bust you!

2 of the GCers that I met are nothing like their voices!!!!

Jono, is shorter than I am, and Matt T is a giant with a very deep voice and only 19!

I and Jono had picture taken with Matt in the middle! Boy was that the short and tall of things!:D

At the bars last night (not in my hometown)... huge group of guys are like, "didn't you go to __________ High School?" Weird that they recognized me after all this time... I think I look different!

KappaTarzan 11-10-2002 03:04 PM

ohhhhh god yes... people recognize me alot because i'ma cheerleader, so they see me down on the court cheering... also alot of people call me "tarzan" (sorority nickname) when i don't even have my letters on.. which makes me laugh, that they remember that... lol...

I tend to remember most of the people that recognize me, although on occasion I have some real issues.

I always feel weird going up to people I recognize though, because I know there is a chance that they just won't know who the hell I am LOL Like at a party here at school I saw a guy who graduated from my high school the year before me and he was really wasted so that couldn't have helped any... he saw me point at him (alcohol does not help manners ;)) and so he was like "Hey why are you pointing at me" and I went over and started explaining stupidly how he was in my art class my junior year and I knew his sister blah blah blah but I think he did recognize me because he just stood there for a few minutes looking at me and nodding and he goes "WOW... you look.... different" (I really do--I am practically a different person now) but that was as he was kinda checking me out in this slimy kind of way so I sort of ended the conversation and went back over to my friends.

eesh!

Yeah, I usually bullshit them for as long as I can.

librasoul22 11-10-2002 08:36 PM

People are forever recognizing me. I went to high school in the same city as my university, so some people recognize me from there, other people have remembered me from when I worked in the local mall. I am GREAT with faces, but names? Naw, lol. And I can't act all phony so when they are like "HEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!"...

I can tell exactly where I have seen them but I am always forced to give the same ol' speech about blah blah blah I am terrible with names.

I am horrible at recognizing people I've met (and SHOULD remember). I'm even worse with names. Yet most remember me because I am tall and my voice is deep like Lauren Bacall. Hubby has a great memory and covers by saying something like-John, you remember (me) from ........ Otherwise, I just fake it till something clues me in to who in the heck I'm talking to!
I'm a rather private person (not snooty in the least) and don't make a big enough effort to try and remember, so it's really my own fault.

I get that a lot. I used to go on TV sometimes in high school when I was in student government. So I'd go to school and some random person would be like, "I saw you on TV" and that got annoying, especially when the same person kept saying it LOL. Then these random people on the street ALWAYS think I'm somebody else, either their cousin's friend or something. This one guy was adamant that I was this person he knew. He thought I was iggin him. But I usually remember people if I've seen them before. Most time with names too.

axotiger 11-11-2002 01:49 PM

yup, im horrible with names. I will even forget someone's name from the time we started the conversation til the time we leave. It's crazy. And also it'll be a monday and I'll see a bunch of people and they'll wave, so I sometimes [dumbly] turn around to see if they're waving at me or the person behind me. lol.

And also, it's terrible, because people remember my name... Stevie. It's weird for a girl. So peoplel tend to remember it. :( I feel bad, I'm always like, "so yeah, how have you been since.. uh.. last time we talked.. uh... right"

I think the craziest experience I have with being recognized is from freshman year of college when I was sitting on a lawn at a party and someone asked me "What's your last name?" "Did you go to Western Hills Elementary?" That wouldn't be so odd except I had moved to Colorado when I was in 8th grade and hadn't seen anyone from my old home town since.

I also used to get recognized from the restaurant I waited tables at in college. I'd be out at the bar and hear someone say "That's the girl from _______" I usually found that a little annoying. Of course I never recognized them as one of my 50+ customers on any given night.
