22 Sigma Nu's arrested

I feel bad for the Sigma Nu chapter at Purdue. Maybe I shouldn't... but I do. 22 brothers at the Purdue chapter have been arrested. I believe 19 of them are freshmen. I haven't read all of the charges, but I know that they stole a golf cart and a ping pong table. Their entire pledge class was arrested. It's all over the news. They even showed a picture of the house and everything.

I guess they were already on probation because of grades. They're dry this year... I believe by order of their National Headquarters, but I am not 100% sure about that.

I feel really bad for their pledges. When they came to serenade us, I thought they all seemed like nice guys. They were a lot more friendly and talkative than normal. They haven't even been initiated yet.. now they're in jail. Apparently 10 of them couldn't even post bail. I guess their parents weren't too happy about them rushing and I am sure getting a call saying that their son and his pledge brothers were arrested for stealing and various other things.

What do you think is going to happen? Think they'll be shut down?

I really wish this didn't happen. Not only does it make Sigma Nu look bad, it makes our entire Greek system look bad. :(

And considering your Purdue QB just broke his hand fighting at one of their parties a couple of weeks ago...

I know a current (or maybe former) officer of this house from our College of Chapters back in 2000. From what I gathered it was a very strong and well run chapter. From the contact I've had with these guys this is probably an isolated incident.

Hopefully they can get things back under control and continue to excel as they have in the past. I seem to recall them being named as one of our top chapters so I don't believe they're currently in any trouble with HQ.

Its messed up, but from the article, so is the following quote:

"Megan Rickert, 21, a Delta Delta Delta sorority member, agreed.

'That's what happens when you put 100 men in one house,' she said."

Yo, thats messed up. As greeks we need to be supportive, and if you cant be supportive, SHUT YOUR MOUTH. Never speak to the media. Geez peeps. THINK. Come on Megan, your're a junior. THINK. I feel the quote reflects poorly on her. No, thats not what happens when you put 100 men in a house. I would expect that comment from a non-greek, not from a fellow greek. Dissapointing, to add fuel to the fire.

Stunts and pranks are just that, stunts and pranks, but you have to admit - - it is wrong to steal, whatever the context. If they were just messing with another glo in good fun or something, that would be one thing, but I'm guessing that's not what happened since the police got involved in such a manner. I've talked to a few of the Sig Nu's from Purdue and they were good guys..The press that covers any greek mishap is just too much.. Has has been noted so many different times on this site, there is far too much negative press and not near enough positive, and that's so disheartening... I wish the sig nu's at purdue only the best....

Edited to add:
I agree wholeheartedly with lifesaver...What the hell!!! Way to promote greek unity..

Also, if someone could PM me a link to the article, I'd like to read it.

BTW: Cringe like I did at the headline.... "22 arrested after Purdue pledge ritual."

The one party per semester with alcohol thing is an alcohol free initiative. I think that means their grades fell below all men's average last year.

Could be wrong though.
