Could be Trouble...
On a preview for upcoming "ER" episodes, I caught a glimpse of a guy in Greek letters. I am fearing the worst....DAMMIT! Why can't they just leave us alone??

I just read something in Entertainment Weekly about a new show airing on MTV called "Undergrads". It basically follows 4 freshmen through college life... one of their "adventures" mentioned was pledging a fraternity. Oh, no....

"All in all, I suppose the best we can hope for it that this "pledge" is in a reputable chapter of a good organization."
Translation....................I sure hope it's one of those warm and fuzzy PC type Fraternities. Don't get your panties in a bunch.....I'm just teasing you. RELAX all, the MTV show "Undergrads" is an animated show. However, someone else is searching for a Fraternity that will allow a pledge class to be filmed from start too finish. My chapter got an inquiry a few weeks ago. My chapter Pres. did not remember who it was from (he thinks FOX). He said it went straight to the trash, but I'll ask some of the other Fraternities A-Reps if they know anything. I can't imagine any Fraternity that would allow this to happen, even if they were saints. For those of you who know my beliefs, could you imagine the ratings of a show about my chapters pledge period. The networks know that it's the controversy that will get the ratings. Don't worry, it will never happen. |
Two thoughts here:
If this person pledges a good chapter of a good national fraternity, there won't be a problem. Right? One that follows the rules. Right? One that truly personifies what it's founders believe(d). Right? Maybe MTV will get bored and go away. Yeah, Right! I'm going to send an E-mail to the Delt Central Office to tell them about this possibility and, hopefully, have them warn all of our chapters to steer clear. If it isn't already too late. If MTV is promoting this, it has probably already been shot. And, it's possible they didn't pick a national or international fraternity. If the portrayal is unfavorable, maybe the national organizations (Interfraternity Council, Panhel, etc.) should get together and approach MTV and ask for equal opportunity to tell the true story. (Please note I didn't say "Equal time," that rule is old news and didn't apply outside political campaigns. And I think it has been repealed anyway.) Not that I think they would get very far. All in all, I suppose the best we can hope for it that this "pledge" is in a reputable chapter of a good organization. DeltAlum |
I also saw the ad for "Undergrads" - I didn't think it was animated, but I know it isn't a reality show. As for the other thing - I can just see what FOX would do with the Greek system. Probably something along the lines of "When Sororities Attack." http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif

If FOX does find a greek org to cooperate it will probably be done along the lines of American High another reality show.

I watched part of Undergrads and it was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. It should be going to the MTV graveyard soon along with "Austin Stories" and "Aeon Flux."
