Friendliness and location
A hot topic in class tonight. What are the differences you notice between different regions (or cities) and friendliness and other personality traits?
The only region I've been outside the midwest was the south, I do notice people will speak to me randomly whether they know me are not and are offended when you don't speak first (almost got into a fight once over this when I visited a certain southern state when I was younger). |
Florida people are really mean, in my experience.
And I had a huge culture shock when I came to school from my town (pop. 400), even though it's only 45 minutes away. The people here are more rude, they drive recklessly, and they aren't very friendly. :( I just can't believe the difference... Oh, yeah, and the cops are arses here, also. |
I think cops in the Midwest are mean...
People in the real West are usually nice though! |

Wellll... I will go back on that to some extent; it depends on the stretch of highway, too. But for the most part I've found cops to be pretty darn nice.
As for people in general, Midwesterners are pretty nice... I didn't really like LA when I was there. I lived in the KS suburbs of KC and people weren't overly kind there... actually at school people could be pretty mean, but that's partly just teens in general... I moved from there to a town that hardly has any sidewalks... people are pretty nice there, but mainly because EVERYBODY knows you and the only way to get away with anything is to be nice to everybody (or that's one way to look at it :)) |
Mmm..I've noticed that northern Ohio (mostly Cincy & Columbus are pains..) some parts of WV and yes, I agree with the statement of Floridians. *nods*
Here everyone basically says hi or whatnot when passing someone on the street. Bad side of this is when you're used to doing that and when you visit somewhere else and do that, they give you this really weird look. I guess you just can't show friendliness anymore :p |
People down here are super-friendly. No one wants to disappoint their mama by being known as rude ;)
Down here, even if a woman is being rude, she'll say it in the nicest way possible. Think Julia Sugarbaker from Designing Women. We tell it like it is :) One of my roomates is from the midwest, and boy is she ever a passive agressive piece of work. And I've encountered that from other people from that area too. Must be all that snow or something. |

Oh, by the way... I totally know what you mean about talking your way out of tickets! I've done that so much! |

I don't know about all the friendliness stuff, but I do know California girls are the best in the world. Mostly every girl I have ever known was a strong, independent person.
Sadly to say...most girls from the south are the opposite, dumb, blonde and need a guy to do everything for them. |
How is blonde the opposite of strong and independent?!

Dude, I love those bimbo blonde type....... Now, when I have a girlfirend or when I decide to get married.....the chick has to have some sort of brains......I can't stand it when you actually try to talk to a chick instead of trying to get into her panties and she ends up being a bimbo.....pisses me off. |
