A woman or a non-white president?

I think a woman. Maybe that's wishful thinking... How would the nation's grumpy old men feel about a woman wearing the pants? And I'm speaking from a state that has not yet had a female governor.

The best way to get started on that is to actually elect a ticket that has a woman as VP. And who knows: if Liddy Dole wins her Senate bid in Kansas, she'll be a major contendor. Hillary Clinton already is one. So's Christine Todd Whitman, governor of New Jersey. We'll keep our eyes out.

I'd vote for a man of any color before I ever voted a woman for President.

May I ask why you'd never vote for a woman?

And I hate to break it to you, babe, but there are more women than men in this country, and more women vote than men. And I'm sure that even more women would get out to the polls if one of our gender were a candidate. Also, there are still plenty of people in this country who would never vote for a nonwhite candidate-- far more of them, I'd imagine, than those who wouldn't vote for a woman.

Does the question above assume that the "woman" in question is white? And are we to assume that the "non-white" is supposed to be a gentleman of color?

Well, I'm going to answer a question with a question then, why not a Woman of color as President before both other categories?

I guess I was thinking either a lady of any race or a gentleman who is not white.

But now that you mention it, nonwhite women really do have the double whammy-- they're "coloured" and they're female.

Personally, I would love to see a nonwhite woman as president. Unfortunately, I doubt it will happen in my lifetime.

i think a non-white president has more likelyhood of happening than a woman president. i personaly do not care, and would vote for either. but i just think there are some non-white men out there that are on their way to the white house.

Why do you want Dole to win? Only cause she is a woman?

Yes, I know a lot about Erskine Bowles. I followed his career as an advisor during the Clinton administration, and I don't like his politics or his leadership style. I'm not a fan.

I would never vote for anyone because of his race or gender. That's just plain dumb. I have many friends who share the same demographics as I with whom I disagree wholeheartedly. I agree with Elizabeth Dole's politics, and I admire her leadership style. That is why I would vote for her.

Boy, do we have a loooong way to go.....
 

Darling? I think not, but anyway .... Let me make it plain for you. Scare quotes (WTF???) or not, the term "coloured" is offensive and antiquated. Using quotes makes it no less offensive.

I personally believe we'll have an African American male president before a female.
