web page

Hey everyone!
In my sorority's upcoming officer elections, I'm going to run for vice president/webmaster. I've wanted to do our web page for the longest time, and in my opinion, it is in desperate need of a change! I have some ideas about what to change and what features we should have on it, but I was just wanting some input on what all of you like/don't like about your organization's page, ideas, and any feedback about our current page, which is at

http://sigmachidelta.truman.edu

Thanks you guys! Have a great week! :)

qtbecks,

It looks like the site has a good start to it, but needs some cleaning up and consistency to make it great. Check your PM box!

I think it looks good---lots of information. The most important thing is to keep it current.

What I would suggest to your group is considering whether keeping the website up and running really should be a Vice President position. To me it would be more appropriate to have that as a chair or committee.

Hey, I'm the webmaster for my sorority :

www.clemson.edu/~axo

So if you need any ideas just PM or email me.

Current Page:
It's good because it has good information but you may want to organize it a little differently, or get some brighter colors, and with your images, try to get gifs so you don't get a background of white around it...

Good Luck:D

This website is really great! Keep up the good work. As a fellow webmaster, I know how frustrating it can be to keep everyone in the chapter satisfied with how the website looks, if you ever need any advice, PM me!

Hey there all. I just found this topic and thought I would post also. I am now taking over my chapter's website. Here is our address: http://oduzta.tripod.com/iotasigma/

It looks like I am going to basically start from scratch since I really have no idea what the two webmasters have done before me. I have a friend who is helping me. We are probably going to stick with Tripod. Any help or suggestions from other webmasters would be greatly appreciated!!!! :p

I haven't done much with it yet, so it is still the old page.

I think the best thing any chapter can do to keep their web site lookig nice is just update the scrap book, and the news about their chapter.

I dont know how many chapter pages I have been to, where the images and news are 2 years old and then it just makes the page worthless.

after that I would say your page is definately one of the better ones I have seen. :)

We're still in the process of putting ours together. Two of our sisters finished it then one of our Alumnae took it over and made it look more professional. She hasn't put up anything yet, so I don't know....I hope it goes up soon because rush starts soon.

Very nice site!

I've posted this already in another thread but here's a link to our site it you want more ideas. It might be easier for alumnae chapters since they have more stability in membership than the collegians do (due to graduation).

We are actually going to be redesigning our site but this one won the Excellence in Website Development award at our convention last summer.

Heya,
I'm working on my chapter's webpage, (not nearly as good as yours!) and I don't really know all that much about webstuff. I can't manipulate HTML for my life. :(

Here's my question though. My chapter is young, 4 this spring. And our founders are still very close and attached to the chapter. They really want to see every member's name listed on the site. But I sort of feel that is not necessary. Only some info for alumnae and then contact info for requests of chapter lists, etc. I don't want to be putting everyone's name on the site without permission, and keeping it updated is becoming a pain in the ass.
So how do you guys have your alumnae page working, what doesn't work/what works? I guess is my question. And how to deal with alumnae trying to decide it all?
I'd appreciate your help!
Tau love

Most decisions on our page were made by myself and our webmaster. We got comments from people (Exec Board, my mom, etc) before we officially posted it, but most people only said "looks great" so that didn't get us very far. Our VP of Programming probably said it best a few months ago when she said "I know we're in good hands with Gigi (our webmaster). But Gamma Phi Int'l has guidelines (and award structure as well) and our goal was to get the award so we just followed those. Plus we have to follow the guidelines to have our site linked to IHs. And since we use this as a recruitment tool, we needed it linked to their site.

Gamma Phi has a rule that no names/photos can be on the sites without approval of the women. We tried to get written approval and it was confusing, a pain, and didn't get us much. So now we just say on our annual dues form, "if you don't want your information/picture posted check here". We have yet to get any complaints. The only info we put are the names of our charter members and the names/info of our officers and they choose what info they want published.

I know that a number of collegiate chapters list the names of all members by class.

And how to deal with alumnae deciding..........I'm sorry I don't know an appropiate answer to that one. If it was me, I'd probably tell them right where to go. BUT, that's not appropriate. I usually take the "if you don't like it, then help out with it" approach.

Make the site what you want. You may be limited by space anyway. If the alumnae are willing to help you update it, then you might have something.

Ok, that's probably long enough for all of you........
