Hitting too hard in football?
Watching as little NFL as I do something has bothered me... Fines for hitting too hard? Isn't that part of the game? Isn't that like fining a boxer for punching too hard? I mean $75,000 for a hit for this Dallas defender last week... That's a little excessive...

You should really stick to playing your violin and leave football to the men.
They were fined for LEADING with the helmet. You know...the big ass hard thing those guys in the tights wear on their head...to keep them from hurting themselves...right? If you knew anything about football, you would know that a helmet-to-helmit hit can pretty much knock someone out with a concussion... Just because they make millions you think it's ok for them to go out and risk their well-being?? Good thinking, genius! |
Boxers do it every time they step into the ring. It's a contact sport. A $75,000 fine is excessive is what I'm saying.
Also, MEN do not call names on the internet hiding behind an anonymous username. You're one of the last people around hereI think have any right to proclaim their manliness. |
Yes, but just like boxing has rules (No hitting below the belt, or in the back of the head), football has them too...
They are here to entertain us, not to kill eachother. P.S. I am the definition of what a real man is. |

Do you want to know the size of my penis too? Cuz...someone already asked that.

Haha, how sad...develop your theory huh?
Just cuz I don't agree with everyone and I have my own opinion means I am not a real man, right? I'm not afraid to voice how I feel and I will admit, sometimes I am too harsh with my words, but it's really pathetic when all yall who are part of this "online" family jump on my case cuz you feel threatened. P.S. The last time I check, being a real man consisted of being responsible and taking care of what needs to be done in the REAL WORLD, not revealing everything about yourself on an online message board. |
It involves stepping up to the plate when called, no matter the situation. To cower here to me shows your character is to run when threatened.
I didn't say that it was because I disagreed with you.. I was just questioning your motives for being here. You came into this thread with a juvenile attack on me asserting that because I'm a fiddle player I can know nothing about sports? I jus thave to question that logic... At any rate this thread is pretty much wrecked. No you'd have to do a WHOLE lot more to threaten me. I don't take you seriously, never will unless you could pull a complete 180. This is my last post on this thread. If you want to continue please direct it to my PM. |

I'm an eagles fan, but Brian Dawkins' hit was ridiculous - he deserves the fine he got. The game isn't one of intimitable punishment - like imthechamp said, leading with the helmet, hitting late, etc should all be met with league punishment. |
If you saw Ike Hilliard lying on the field motionless....
Then I'm not sure if the fine can be called excessive. It's not just for the benefit of the guy who was hit, but also for the guy who did the hitting. If I remember correctly, Dawkins almost got hurt as well. Collin |
Yeah, one of the downfalls of being a reciever is that you often leave yourself open to a big hit like that...whether your QB leads you into one, or the defender just takes a cheap shot like that.
I played Tight End in high school and I suffered a concussion once due to a helmet-to-helmet hit. It's not fun when you get knocked out for a sec...although after...the team got a kick out of it, haha. |

I think the issue was that the ball was bouncing on the ground, hilliard was slowing up, and dawkins ripped his arm off. If he thought he had the ball, that's fine, he's an All-Pro, he obviously knows how to do his job better than I do - but it was still a late hit. |
Ripped his arm off? He hit him head first in the chest. It was a late hit, but not a dirty one.
