Hallelujah

UMass is NOT going to keep underclassmen out of the fraternities this spring. They ARE going to crack down pretty hard, but they're not going for the nuclear option.

We are SO lucky.

Congratulations dude!!

33girl 11-01-2002 12:54 AM

That's great to hear. :) Did they decide to be nice or did they just realize they didn't have enough housing?

SATX*APhi 11-01-2002 12:57 AM

Wow, congrats!

KappaKittyCat 11-01-2002 01:06 AM

Phew!

Now you all know what this means... you have to behave! Keep it all under control and don't give them any reason to even suggest this course of action again.

Good luck to you.

Oh, they have more than enough housing, that's not a problem here. I think the Vice-Chancellor (who is a nice-ish sort of woman) just decided it wouldn't be cricket to do something like that in the middle of the year. I'm sure she's got something else up her sleeve. I'm glad we're already used to being dry, I'd hate to get shoved into it.

Well at least maybe the other fraternities will take the administration seriously. This could have been a good scare.

Actually, ten to one says they don't know how close to the edge we came- I only know because I half live in the Greek Life office, and nothing goes on there that I don't know about. Most people never go in there unless they're being discplined.

i was under the impression that umass amherst had not enough housing? one of my friends was going to school there and was put up in a hotel for a couple weeks by umass because they couldn't get him in the dorms...

OnePlus69Is70 11-01-2002 05:44 PM

We didn't have that problem this year. Last year was absolutely terrible- way more upperclassmen than expected chose to stay in the dorms. They had people living in hotels and lounges for weeks. This year they reduced the size of the freshman class by 1/3, and they changed a lot of single-sex housing over to coed (for some reason, there were a lot more female-only spaces than male). There was no housing crunch this year at all.
