flaky lips
What can I do against cracked, dry and flaky lips in winter?
|
Carmex is AWESOME also burt bees rocks as well... just dont' lick and bit your lips
|
I am addicted to chap stick -- I wear it every day 24/7. For your situation though, I would wear chap stick to help prevent the dry, cracked lips. If your lips do happen to crack, etc, try some Karmex (sp?).

Absolutely medicated chapstick. It tastes really disgusting but does amazing things for your lips (possibly /because/ it tastes so nasty, so you're not tempted to lick it at all).
It's great to use at night and then use a lighter chaptstick or blistex during the day. I'm using the combo of the medicated stuff at night and Blistex lip tone at work so it isn't obvious that i'm just using lip balm instead of lipstick. |
Here are some tips that may help:
While in the shower, exfoliate your lips. Do this by wetting a washcloth, pull your lips taught, and rub w/ washcloth As soon as you get out, apply a moisturizing lip balm (while your lips are still damp. Burt's Bees is the best, in my opinion. I've heard Carmex can actually dry your lips, although I haven't any proof as to that. All I can say is my husband used to have badly dried lips, until he tried Burt's. Do NOT lick your lips throughout the day! That will only dry them further! Drink lots of water Reapply lip balm after eating or drinking, and before going to bed You should see improvement in about a week or so. Good luck! |
There is something called Aquifor (SP?) and it is AMAZING!!!!!! Seriously, it is the best thing out there IMHO! :) The exfoliation is a good idea too!

CARMEX!
I SWEAR by it!! I LOVE Carmex. Also, I use Blistex cherry flavored lip moisturizer.
|
I swear by Smith's Rosebud Salve.
Haha, ask 100 GreekChatters, get 100 different opinions! :) |
Vaseline is the one for me. I buy a big tub and it lasts for years. :D Never had a complaint yet.

1) Exfoliate... you can do this with your toothbrush after you brush, with a washcloth in the shower, or with a product (Lipscuff from the Body Shop is good).
2) Moisturize with your face moisturizer while your lips are still wet from the shower. 3) Throughout the day, use a lip product that has no scent or flavor... I agree with BrownEyedGirl that Keihl's is the best. 4) Exfoliate again before bed. |
As a trumpet player my lips are very important to maintain. I always try to keep them as smooth as possible. Some good stuff I've found to work well is the normal lip balm products but if you really really need good stuff then get DCT.

Yeah, I have the same problem too and chapstick/balm/vaseline doesn't help much. :( |
Here's a beauty tip...
When you get done brushing your teeth, lightly brush your lips too. It exfoliates them. They'll feel a little numb, but then apply a little bit of carmex or your favorite lip balm to revive them. Although people LOVE chapstick, if you use it too much it will prevent your lips from healing naturally and so it's only wise to apply every now and then (perhaps before bed and one in the morning). Sorry Sorority Girl...didn't see you wrote practically the same thing. lol |
I use Sephora OperationSmile Lip Baume. It works soooooo good and lasts even after a marathon smooch session. ;) Also, 100% of the proceeds are donated to Operation Smile.
Check it out at Sephora Also, make sure that you are putting on some type of Lip Balm before you put on lipstick (lipstick is notorious for drying your lips out). ZetaAce |
