Nu Phi Mu?
Hi everyone,
Can anyone tell me whether there's an age limit for Nu Phi Mu chapters? I'd love to organize a Beta chapter on my campus. |
To the best of my understanding (I will be organizing a Nu Phi Mu chapter as well) the basic gist is that the majority of girls in the chapter are college age. It doesn't mean that only students, or only girls under such-and-such an age may be members....just that the chapter is more geared towards girls of college age and are generally based on a campus.
Am I right Erica, Localsororities, etc? (oh wise ones!) |
Now I'm scared.... I wanted to start a Nu Phi Mu chapter, but if Laura's post is right.... I'm already outside the age range!
Looks like Ill have to do some official checking with Nationals... |
I'm out of the age range, too. I mean, I don't suppose there's anything wrong with having a traditional chapter based on a college campus, is there?
|
I believe the range is 18-24. I'm 23, so I'm pretty sure I would remember if I had read a younger cut-off.
I agree with localsororities though. The titles are really for organizational purposes. It doesn't matter what category you fall in! Erica:) |
Ok here we go.....
I spoke with a woman in my city council who was 18 when she joined sorority. (She's now 50+) She started out in a Nu Phi Mu chapter. According to her, NPM are reserved for girls the ages 18-22. So girls who enter that chapter MUST be of that age. That's the reason why there are so little NPM chapters left. Most girls wind up doing a traditional Ritual of Jewels chapter. It's on the same format as the NPM chapter, but allows for more flexibility than the NPM. I don't know where International stands on this, but this is only what I've heard from someone who's actually been in a NPM chapter....wayyyyyyyyyyy back when. LOL Hope that this helps.
