Job trouble (mini-vent)

As of today, I may be again unemployed. :(

A couple of months ago, I took a part-time job where I was asked to commit for the school year. I was hesitant about committing, but they needed someone immediately, so I got the job "for the time being" until they could find a replacement for me. Since then, I have been told repeatedly, by several people, that if I was willing to commit, the job was mine.

Seeing as how the mortgage and student loan bills -don't- stop coming when you lose your job :( I reluctantly decided, a couple of weeks ago, to make the commitment. I'm still looking for work in my field, though, and working on starting my own business.

I get along great with everyone there, except the head administrator.

Here's the problem. THE VERY DAY I spoke to the head administrator and offered her my commitment, she ran an ad for my job. She even paid extra to make it a "featured listing". And when people call, instead of telling them the job is filled, she is bringing them in for interviews!

At the middle of each month, I sit down with her and set my hours for the upcoming month. Here's what's making me nervous: She has been avoiding meeting with me to set my hours for November. This is not what is known as a good sign.

I'm worried :(

Thanks, Hootie :)

I have been looking for work pretty much constantly for the past several months. Hardly anyone is hiring in my field (software engineering) right now. This job I have is administrative work, and I've been doing it part-time while looking for work in my field, working on a certification, and working on setting up my own business.

It's ultimately her decision whether to replace me, but she would have to justify it and answer some difficult questions if she did so.

I guess I will have to buttonhole her today and get a straight answer out of her...

yuck!

So sorry to hear about your job stress aephi!

Is it possible that you ask your boss or someone else in the office? If she's so clearly searching to replace you, maybe she'll at least be up front with you about it?

Good luck.

I am sorry to hear about your situation. :( This woman sounds a bit sketchy and it makes me wonder why you would want to continue working for her any way. I am looking for another job right now and it drains so much out of me. Every week, I send my resume out to about 10 different companies/offices and am lucky if I get called back by 3. I've had interviews but I am so quiet at the interviews, why would they want to hire me? It is not any fun looking for a job and I do wish you the best with your pursuit. Keep your head up. And also, always see things through a positive light and it will make things much easier. :)

Thanks :)

Well, it looks like I will be going in on Monday and we'll set my hours for the rest of November then. So I still have a job :)

I'm not thrilled about the job - it's part time, it's not in my field, and the pay sucks - but woman does not live by unemployment check alone, and nobody's hiring in my field. The plan right now is to keep the admin job part-time so as to have a steady, verifiable income, while continuing to look for work in my field (part or full time), and working on starting up my own business.
