Tricks, Hints, or Support: Memorizing the Creed

Hey girls! I'm a new Phi :D and I am trying to work on memorizing the creed. My initiation is in about three weeks, and I have a fair amount of memorization ahead of me. Once I get the line started, I know the bulk of the lines... it's just memorizing the order of the phrases that is hard, especially the ones that sound similar.

Anyone have any unique or helpful ideas when it comes to this?

Hello new Phi!

As a former Provisional Member Director, the way I had my girls memorize the creed was:

I printed out the creed from www.phimu.org and cut apart the lines. Then read them the first stanza out loud in it's entirety. Then I read a line, and had them repeat. Then they said the whole first stanza together again. Then I handed them the strips of the first stanza's lines and they had to put them in order. When they had it right, we moved on to the second stanza the same way. Then the third stanza. Then I handed them all the strips and they had to put the whole thing in order. It worked really well.

Hi! I'm a new Phi too, and the way we memorize is by goign aorund ina circle (of all the Phi's) and first perosn will say the first line, 2nd person says the 2nd line, going around continueing this. Eventually when we have that down, we went around one stanza at a time. It works well because you have to know what line is coming next.

Good luck! :D

That's an awesome way to memorize the creed! Welcome to Phi Mu both of you!

Thanks for the help y'all!

I recorded myself saying the Creed on Sound Recorder (I had to do it under a minute though, that's some fast talking ;)) and then had it burned on a CD with regular songs. Every time I get into my car, I listen to it first and say it aloud along with the CD.

I also have inserted a copy into the clear coverings of some of my school notebooks... this way when I am bored in class and I need something to stare at, the Creed is right there :p

Cutting up the strips sounds like a great idea... and it will help me to get them in the right order. I am also going to try the "round" idea at my Phi study group.

You can also print a copy out and paste it in the bathroom, you should go in there enough that each time u do for whatever reason. To go to the bathroom, brush your teeth, take a shower etc. that you will read it over a bunch a times a day and this will ensure it

Oh, and another thing my roommate and I did (The bathroom thing reminded me) while we were pledging, was we wrote the creed on our full length mirror with dry-erase markers. Since we looked at the mirror everyday, it was something we were always looking at. And then we could erase it and re-write it as we learned it.

my big framed a copy of the creed for me when i was a phi and i used to just stare at it all the time. i also had a couple really really boring classes while i was a phi so i would start writing the creed over and over again during class to keep myself awake.

we were giving wallet sized copies of the creed....they definately came in handy during boring classes.

if you know all the lines, but are unsure of what goes where...memorize the order of the verbs!
