grrrrr

I'm a little under the weather, but what's bothering most is this scratchy throat! It's really nauseating me and I have the urge to clear my throat, but when I do it the scratchiness gets worse. How do I ease it?

Perfect timing , there's a hayride and a halloween party tonight, but the f*cking party is OUTSIDE.

Gargle with warm salt water (sidenote: did that mess EVER work? It never did for me?)

Throat Lozenges
Cough Drops

Oh and stay home. Take some NyQuil and curl up with a book.:D
I am home grading all of these damn papers and caught students copying off of each other. word for word.

I agree that lozenges work. I like those Celestial Seasonings ones -- any kind that isn't all mediciney.

The warm salt water might work -- it works for me if I ever have a tooth that is irritated. I'd probably try it, but it tastes *awful* so I always rinse my mouth with plain water after and then brush my teeth.

I hear you!! I was supposed to go see Incubus tonight-outside  -however, I also have a sore throat and a 101 degree fever! So instead of a fun night, I'm in my pyjamas drinking hot tea.

Oh, take some Vitamin C-that won't ease the pain, but it will help your immune system!

Peaches-n-Cream 10-26-2002 07:34 PM

I hope that you feel better. :)

I'm sorry to hear you're under the weather; I hope you feel better soon!

CrimsonTide4 is a wise, wise woman with her sage NyQuil advice! Great stuff, that! Take some of that and let it knock you out and you won't even KNOW your throat hurts!

Hootie 10-27-2002 02:28 AM

Here's my routine for sickness!

Get more sleep so your body is able to recoop faster! No late nights, no drinking, no fast food...if you need to sacrifice the weekend~ do IT!

Take a lot of Vitamin C! It totally works! Helps your immune system and will help you if you take it daily from getting sick in the future (multi vitamins too)!

Hot tea with some honey is good! Or some hot chocolate! Nothing like milk or dairy though cuz that just coats your throat and makes it worse when you try to clear it!

At night, rub some menthalatim rub on your neck (I know~ stinky) and then wrap a hot towel around it (Or lay there with a hot wash cloth on top of it).

Drink lots of water ~ no pop/soda/cola

Night time medications are OKAY, but go for something that is specific to your problem. Don't get all knocked out by something for symptoms you DON'T have!!!

I hope you feel better in time for the hayrack ride!

PS. If your air is too dry (now that it's winter almost) buy a humidifyer which will help you when you sleep. It'll keep your nasal passages open so you won't have to breate through your mouth...or if you do, it won't be so dry (you get my point).

The warm salt water only works when you're at the beginning of a sore throat--the salt is supposed to make an environment in your throat that is unhealthy for the bacteria that infect your throat to breed. So, by the time you have a full-on sore throat, those little bacteria are everywhere. I had a Bio teacher in HS who would gargle with hot salty water every night to prevent getting a sore throat.

I totally agree with Hootie. Vitamin C! Vitamin C!

Thanks for the advice and wishes. I do feel much better.

Yes, the throat drops definately helped the scratciness! The next time anyone has throat irratation try HALLS FRUIT BREEZES. Not only works good, but TASTES really good. Tylenol cold is my savior, but it makes me a little (ok very) wired.

I didn't make it to the party and hayride :(, but pizza, movies, and philosophical discussions at another friend's house made the night less boring.
