Kappa Sig Love

In light of recent bad press for Kappa Sigma, I want to remind you that these 2 instances are not a reflection of Kappa Sigma National Fraternity nor the chapters thereof.

We have all had to deal with the occasional rowdy member(s) that have made bad decisions, and does something that you do not agree with. Every chapter of every GLO has gone through the same motions, whether it is publicized or not.

Kappa Sigma is a diverse group of men united by a common bond, a goal to strive for the greater good (and have a good time in the process).

To counteract the bad press, let's hear what the Kappa Sig's are like on YOUR campus, and what makes them stand out.

Bad news and good news...

Bad news: Last semester they got in trouble for hazing with KS HQ. Every member of the fraternity except for the pledge class that semester was expelled or took alum status... I'm not really clear on exactly what the punishment was.. none of my business so I never asked.

Good news: The 10 or so guys that were left along with some awsome alum support pulled off a great rush. They hooked it up through the summer and were out in force giving it a 100% effort to recruit as many as possible. They landed one of the largest pledge classes on campus. They seem to have done a 180 since last year.

Keep it up.

Edited to add:
I know there are a lot of chapters in Oklahoma. The only other KS I know is a fella I played in a band with at one time. Was one of the hardest working guys in the band. He was good people. From the OU chapter.

Don't worry dog, although Kappa Sig at SDSU was kicked out last semester, I know that they aren't all like this. That would be like assuming every Delta Sig is a racist pig too.

KSig600,

You are absolutely correct and we all know that. It is always discouraging when we see our organizations negatively portrayed in any media due to the misdeeds of a few.

It makes the majority of us want to work harder to protect our good name.

Thanks for your post.

Even thought they got in a little trouble for vandalizing the Sigma Nu house they had a big pledge class.

I don't have much to base my opinion on, but the one time I hung out with our Kappa Sigs they were awesome. We showed up at their house after their party had ended, but they invited us in anyway, gave us something to drink, and just chilled with us -- and they didn't mind when one of the girls accidentally spilled her drink on their carpet! They also have a gorgeous house.

Some of the biggest student leaders and big up-and-coming student leaders are Kappa Sigmas. They are great guys!

What is with all the negativity? That comment was uncalled for. Seriously though, this post is supposed to be a positive outlook for Kappa Sigma, and you added yet another negative detail about another fraternity other than your own.

Kappa Sigs--- I don't know any, but from what I see on the boards you guys are awesome!

I played in a band with a Kappa Sig from Oklahoma University. A damned good guitarist. Damned nice guy also.

The Kappa Sigmas at Oklahoma City Universtiy I'm told pretty much run the fraternity system.

Kappa Sig's a GREAT group of guys -- a couple of their brothers got into it with another fraternity on my campus a few years back (the second fraternity was roofing girls.) So while I suppose you could look at that from a troublemaking standpoint -- I think the world needs MORE people who stand up when something wrong is going on.

Definately a great group of guys. They've always been sweet to both me and my sisters.

Kappa Sigma is an awesome fraternity at Pitt. There was some problem a few years ago with housing (Pitt has the most convuluted fraternity housing rules EVER) but they're the hugest off campus fraternity. I think they're bigger than some on campus fraternities on our campus. They're awesome guys who have great parties and they're involved on campus too. We had such an awesome mixer with them last year and we're trying to get one organized for this semester. Great guys who have great parties. :p

I'm a Kappa Sigma pledge at Washburn University, in Topeka Kansas (inbetween K State and KU). I'm a freshman, and came to college with the sterotypical view on greek life, and didn't think I would join especially since there was no formal rush, it was all done personally. I was invited over to the Kappa Sigma house after school started and when an alumni from the 1950s answered the door, I was wondering 'what the hell?!' Well, Dr. Axton talked to me about the house, and then I talked to a bunch of the actives and really liked the place, so I pledged the next day.

About 5 years ago, our charter was almost lost and the house was reorganized. Though much smaller now, we are a really great house, with 15 actives and a great 13 member pledge class. We worked extremely hard and invited our 1950s alumni down for homecoming this year, especially members of the Crescentaires Glee club the house had back then. With all the alumni and the 5 or 6 actives and pledges that helped fill in the ranks, we had a great sounding group that sang at the school's kids of the 50's ball (that was organized because of us). Because of the extremely good show we put on for the alumni, we are hoping to raise an extremely large amount of money to put in a university-controlled endowment fund that will pay for much needed house improvements (like a $60,000 fire sprinkler system) and will guarantee that we will be able to stay on campus.

I am loving the Kappa Sigma house down here, and really hope to get initiated so I can move in the house next year.

For a fleeting moment in time, all her brothers walked its streets...
