Kappa Sigs torturing turtles?
Peta is up in arms about it. They are mad that the chapter can't be prosecuted. Interesting article...

Why would anyone do that? Is there a Delta Zeta chapter on that campus? They can't be too happy about it.
|
I guess hazing laws all need to be re-written to not allow "physical or mental discomfort to turtles" in them
|
The same thing should be done to those jerks at they did to the poor turtles.
|
callous cruelty
What complete morons. Someone ought to attach firecrackers to their backs and see how they like it.
I hope there's a DZ chapter on campus, and that they refuse to do any activities with that Kappa Sig chapter. |
Don't worry--HE'S FINE!
I *assure* you there is nothing wrong with that turtle and it was not hurt in the process of all that, even though it looks like they're "torturing" it in the one picture that link provided. It was somebody's pet and even though I am admitting their actions were stupid/questionable, they did create shields to protect their "batte tortoise" or whatever it was they called it.
1. they created plexiglass shields to cover its head and flexible flaps to block his legs from any stray sparks. they stopped periodically to look at the shields and make sure they were working so that he wasn't getting hurt. 2. to say "explosives" is a MAJOR exaggeration. bottle rockets would be more like it. they were way nicer to the turtle than most boys are in their own firework wars. Stupid, but honestly the turtle was not hurt in the process. And if he thought it was *that* scary, he'd have gone into his shell when the things were going off. But he was just walking around the whole time, as if nothing was going on. (this is my school in case you couldn't tell by what I've said) And no, there is no DZ chapter here. Just thought I'd let you all know that the turtle is A-O-K. Greek Love, April |
Going off of what aprilxo had to say, in that the turtle was not hurt, I would like to point out that PETA is not the most friendly organization on Earth. Hello firebombing trucks and hurting PEOPLE. I did a report on them for Environmental Ethics last year, and they are not all sunshine and happiness. And they're worried about "torturing" turtles that weren't even hurt.
*sigh* |

Why would anyone want to hurt harmless creatures on purpose? Does this make them feel powerful? Personally, I just think they are weak beings. I suggest they find something better to do with their extra time.
|
I'm very relieved to hear that they were careful not to actually hurt the turtles. regardless it sucks that e few boys decided to do it and they happened to be kappa sigs, because now people will think the whole chapter is full of sadists.

Damn thats some funny stuff . . .
Given that the turtles weren't hurt, think about how much work and care went into creating battle turtles! Chapter Officers usually despair over getting members to put time and effort into anything constructive . . . And here they put huge efforts into . . . Battle turtles! LOL. |
the turtles weren't hurt in any way, so how did PETA find out???
and yea.. if they weren't hurt i think battle turtles is a hilarious idea :) :) i have a baby turtle who is about the size of a half dollar, and we made her do "keg stands" with a little miniature bottle of heinekin and called her our "party turtle". she is always doing handstands on her own in her tank, so we decided she wanted to :) |
Well, the video has been on the network for quite some time. I think somebody thought it would be funny to burn it to CD and send it to PETA. Not sure on that one, but that's what I've heard happened. And with the idea of a "battle turtle," they weren't making more than one of them to fight each other or anything. I haven't ever heard of them doing it any other time except for that solitary incident with just one turtle.
I myself was taken aback when I first saw it but then I realized that they were indeed taking measure to insure that the turtle was not being harmed... if anybody out there is getting ideas from this incident, you better make damn sure you're not harming any innocent creature in the process! :) |
Although I use to be a huge PETA supporter now I take everything they say with a huge grain of salt. Many times they have blown things way out of proportion. I of course am not saying I support what KSigma did but after reading some of PETA'S stances on certain subjects (in fact I was just doing that last night at work) and some of their actions I no longer can believe half of what they say.

Oh Thank God someone opened the door for some nice PETA bashing.
These idiots: *Asked the Green Bay Packers to change their team name because the name Packers was sensitive to cows. *Asked NASCAR to stop having the winner of the Indy 500 drink milk in celebration, or at least switch to soy milk. Look, they're not clubbing baby seals in the winner circle, and they're not taking cows out to task during hafltime. I cannot believe these morons have nothing to do than bring controversey over the most trivial things. If you wanna be a frickin vegetarian fine, and if some guys are harpooning whales off the east coast, fine, but don't bring a fuss to something as little as a team name, and stop trying to convert me into a vegatarian. There's this thing called the "FOOD CHAIN", and we are at the top. We eat animals, animals do not (unless you're unfortunate) eat us. Go cure every human problem, go cure homelessness, go cure poverty and go cure aids, then maybe I'll give a rats ass about cows. Until then, they're our baseball gloves and sirloin specials. Excuse me, I'm going to have a nice inch thick steak and wash it down with some pork chops and maybe a side dish of drumsticks. |
