African American DG's

I'm African American and I was just wondering if there are any other African Americans in Delta Gamma. A lot of my friends have made fun of my because of my choice of a sorority...but I think its great to be a DG!!!!!

Welcome to GC!

Yes, there certainly are women of African ancestry in Delta Gamma!

I remember in the late 1980's that the UBC chapter in Vancouver, Canada had 2 African-Canadian members. One DG was named Darcia and the other DG was Angela (I think that was her name...this was a few years before my time).

I am pleased and proud to say the UBC DG chapter is strong and diverse today, with women of Persian origin, Jewish faith, Asian origin, Indo-Canadian origins and multi-ethnic origins.

Yes, it is great to be a DG! :D

hey all!
I'm one of three African American girls currently in my chapter. I think there was one before me, a few years back. I Love my chapter and DG very much. Our chapter is the most diverse on campus. We pride ourselves on the fact that we choose quality girls. My big and both my lil's are white. We have a close family were no one has any problems regarding this. I felt that DG was the best place for me when I went through recruitment. It was where I felt the most at home. I would never change my decision or rethink things because it is a predominatly white sorority.

Hey ladies sorry to infiltrate your thread but I noticed this topic......there was an African-American member of the Delta Gamma chapter at Kent State fairly recently, I believe that she has graduated. Kent's DG chapter is fantastic, has been for many many years. Unfortunately a lot of women on our campus are discouraged by pressures from others to only rush NPHC chapters and do not go through NPC rush. I feel bad that we lose out on a lot of quality women that way, but then again I can understand both sides. We had an awesome girl in Chi Omega back when I was in the chapter, she pledged either my sophomore or junior year, but she didn't stay with it because some of her friends gave her a really hard time about it. She found a home in a multi-cultural Christian sorority and was happier there I guess. Anyway, just wanted to give some love to the DGs!!!!

Actually, Delta Gamma has a longer history than you might think with regard to diversity. Chi/Cornell had black members as far back as the late 60's.
We have lots of diversity in our national. It makes us strong and proud!
Jewish, Arab, Hispanic.
Diversity is D-rrific!
