Can anyone explain what this is about?
Okay, I'm hoping that those of you who keep up with the news can explain this:
http://www.cixel.com/stuff2/MandarinAirlines.gif Is this for real? |
that caption is actually kinda funny......it's sleeping...lol
|
I recall this pic be emailed around back in the day when I still used AOL so I figure it’s around ten years old at least.
|
It looks very convincing if it's not real...

It may be a real photo. My family visited Hawaii many years ago, right after the incident where the roof of a plane ripped off in mid-flight and the crew had to make an emergency landing in Hawaii. If I'm remembering correctly, I believe that a flight attendant was swept out of the plane when the roof gave way.(Don't know if you remember the story or not, but it was pretty big news... I think they made a TV movie about it, also.)
Anyway, as my parents' plane was landing, they looked out the window of the cabin and saw that roofless plane that had been all over the news sitting on the tarmack directly across from them. Mom said it was one of the eeriest feelings she'd ever had looking from her plane to that one. (I'm not saying this photo is one of the plane in my story -- just that it very easily could be a real picture.) |
Actually, I'm pretty sure the picture is real -- but fairly old.
The caption is only funny if you've never been close to a real ariliner crash. Especially when fairly large parts of the aircraft are intact like this one. I have. There were still bodies inside. There's nothing funny about it. In the Hawaii incident menioned above, a large portion of the roof of an Aloha Air (I think) Boeing 737 pealed off in an overwater flight and a flight attendent was lost. A couple of days after the crash in Denver that I helped to cover for my former TV station, my entire family flew to Disney World and we took off from a parallel runway while parts the the crashed aircraft were still there on the ground. A very strange feeling. |
I remember the interisland Aloha Airlines incident quite well even though I was in grade school at that time. The flight attendant who was lost was C.B. Lansing. Not too long after that, there was a Hawaiian Airlines flight to New Zealand [I think] where the cargo door ripped off the plane.
I hope no one was offended with my posting of that picture. I don't find plane crashes a laughing matter and I really don't know who made that caption--[I got it off a friend's LiveJournal post]. It's a scary thought though...taxiing on the runway and having that plane bellyup is not a good image to have as you're about to take off. |
my father works for delta airlines.
he has told me that they do 'explode' and set planes on fire to practice putting the fires out and all emergency techniques. i live right near jfk and i can remember one there for a while and that was the explanation for it. don't know if that is the case for this picture though |
never mind.
