Hello All -
I mentioned this under the Tri-Delt thread, but thought everyone would like to hear this information. This is a GREAT way to promote positive Greek interaction on campus and in the community!

(As read in "The Lyre of Alpha Chi Omega" Spring 2000): Kristin was an AXO sister who was date raped and, as an unfortunate result, commited suicide in 1998. Her mother, Andrea, is a Tri-Delt. As a result, both AXO and Tri-Delt have teamed up to present "Kristin's Story" to Greek communities nationwide. "The Mission of Kristin's Story is: To provide a progressive rape education program that is relevant and beneficial to today's college students by utilizing our resources as womens' organizations." (The Lyre of Alpha Chi Omega, Spring 2000, p.6).

If your organization is like mine, we had to have a certain number of awareness seminars (all kinds including rape, alcohol, hazing, etc.) per semester. The great thing about this is your organization can team up with another on campus and have a joint presentation. Or, if you have a really tight Greek system, all organizations can present this together. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE (OR HAVE) ALPHA CHI OMEGA AND/OR DELTA DELTA DELTA ON YOUR CAMPUS! You can be a GLO, a BGLO, sorority, fraternity, social, service, etc... The important thing is presenting GREEK unity and support for issues that affect us all! "Participants will hear this moving narrative from Andrea Cooper herself and will receive a informational brochure..."

We brought Andrea Cooper to our school to present Kristin's Story. I have to say that it was very powerful and emotional. Since we have both Alpha Chi Omega and Tri-Delta, it was especially powerful for our campus. I recommend this program for every school. It left many students in tears and I'm sure it opened up a few eyes to the horors of date rape and depression. Mrs. Cooper volunteers her time to help others and it is a perfect opportunity to bring the whole greek community, and also non-greeks, together.

I was having trouble locating more info on the AXO site, can you offer some help? I would like to see about bringing this presentation to CSU.

I've heard they are in the process of updating the national website (finally http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif and unveiling it after convention (which is the first week of July) so maybe after this happens there will be a direct link. Until then, go to the website and send an email to get more info! Maybe when people start emailing asking about it they will make a direct link. Who knows! If you do get it to come to campus, please look into making it something that the other greeks on campus can attend (if not anyone!) Keep us posted!

OMG! I actually met Andrea Cooper at SAE's national leadership school in ... I wanna say it was 1999. She told this story to us and it was really eye-opening to see how many people in the room knew someone who had either actually or attempted to commit suicide. This is really a good presentation: highly recommended!

She spoke here in LB last fall I believe. It was very powerful. I originally wasn't going to attend but decided to go & am very glad I did. I only hope that people walked away from this with a new insight into all that was discussed. Amazing.

We brought her to campus in 2003 as our Greek Week Speaker. She was FANTASTIC. Some of us took Ms. Cooper out to dinner before the speech, and she was such a sweet person. Her speech was so touching and had such a great impact.

She spoke at my school either my junior or senior year. I remember her being such an amazing speaker. I was so glad I decided to attend.

she was at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi a few years ago. it was a mandatory event for all greeks. it was a great presentation and everyone was touched by the story. it was great having the guys there too.....Andrea talked about how guys should help look after the girls at parties and need to intervene if they see another guy getting out of hand with a girl instead of encouraging them. again, just loved her!

She came to WSU in 2000. It was a mandatory Greek event here as well. It was an amazing, eye opening experience. I really wish more women (Greek and not) have an opportunity to hear her talk. It definitely changed my life for the better....

I think Kristin's Story was at MGCA 2004.

She came to our campus in 02 and it was amazing! There is also a video of the presentation you can buy for a fraction of the cost of having her actually speak. Also, you can request a grant to have her speak as well if your campus groups can't afford it.

I think that she was worth every penny. We made it a requirement for our women to attend (obviously) and most of the other chapters at our school also did. There were a ton of fraternity men as well. Everyone was very emotional over it and it definitely made a huge impact on us all.

I'm SO glad that there's a video available now!! From what I've heard about Kristin's Story, it should be almost mandatory!

She spoke at Iowa State in the fall of 1999. I believe that Sigma Chi sponsored her as part of their Derby Days. I thought Andrea Cooper did in excellent job presenting this topic.
