girls club
Anybody watch it tonight? It's the new David E. Kelley show on Fox. It's about 3 women first year attorneys.
I had been SO excited to watch it. Now i'm depressed as hell and never want to watch it again. Most first year law school students I know have had their law school doubting moments. I was proud that I haven't had mine yet. Well tonight, I had mine. I know it's a drama, i know it's not real, but geez... makes me wonder what's in store for me! |
Well, I thought the show was majorly b*tchy and definitely not what I expected. I miss Ally McBeal! :( I'll probably continue to watch it...at least give it a few episodes since I watch Boston Public anyway. I'll wait and see if it can hook me.
Overall, not a hit, but not a miss. |
What was it about the show that made you doubt law school?
I doubt being in law school every day. Its not whether not I can do it, its whether or not I *want* to do it. It just doesn't seem worth the effort to me. Of course, I go to a school that belives "We may be in the third tier, but our abuse is first-rate!" |
My local newspaper forewarned that Girls Club would be a stinker and boy, were they right!

I'm not sure if it made me doubt law school per se, but it definately scared the sh!t out of me about working at a firm. I have no idea what area of law I want to go into or what I want to do, and this just scared me!
The show was pure crap though, i'm seeing it barely making it to the midseason. |
kddani, don't feel so bad about have those *law school moments.* Its perfectly normal! I knew within my first semester of law school that practicing was not for me. Like juniorgrrl said...it wasn't a matter of whether I *could* do it, but a matter of not *wanting* to.
I'm here to tell you that there are THOUSANDS of other things you can do with a JD. I work in the public sector, I'm moving up the ladder fast, I'm ridiculously happy with my job, and my JD was instrumental in getting me where I am today. If practicing law is what you want to do...that's fantastic. But if you don't, your life is NOT over! Don't be anxious--everything has a way of working out for the best. :) If you ever need to vent, I'm here! |
I was really excited to watch this show too! I watched maybe the first 20-30 minutes of it. It was very dissapointing to say the least!

Cancelled
After only only 2 episodes!!!
|
guess we're not the only ones who thought it sucked
|
The cancellation reminds me that Fox had the quick hook for the Street, which was about investment bankers.
|
The show sucked, clearly, but as someone who works in an AMLAW Top 100 firm, there is certainly a hierarchy and the first years get all the shit work. And no first year would EVER talk to a senior member in that way.

Girls Club - were those girls 2nd year associates?
Was the Street about investment bankers who pulled their own money together to form a new company? Girls Club is BH 90210 and Melrose except they changed the setting. Anybody remembered Models Inc.? BJ Quote:

As an aside, Giancarlo Esposito (aka Big Brother Almighty in School Daze) played the "girls club" lawyers' boss and the boss at the Street's investment banking firm. I vaguely remember Models Inc.:p |
Darren Star also had his fingers involved with "Central Park West".
I loved "Models Inc.". It was pure mind jello! I love my Aaron Spelling / Darren Star shows. Does anyone remember "The Titans'? It was an Aaron Spelling show, not a Darren Star one? http://tv.yahoo.com/tvpdb?d=tvi&cf=0&id=1807778230 |
