Maid in Manhattan

Personally, I plan to see "Maid in Manhattan," since its one of those movies I compulsively decide to see. *coughsweethomealabamacough*. I don't know what it is. Is this in our genes girls? lol. Plus, I've loved Ralph Fiennes since the English Patient.

Anyone else seeing this?

It sounds like the name of a porn.

j lo movie -- looks like it will be good.

Funny that you mention that, Optimist. The movie used to be called, Chambermaid. ;) I think Maid in Manhattan is a lot cuter and I'm not making the same connection as you.

But, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Didn't JLo grow up in the Bronx?

She's a hotel maid and one of the rich guests falls in love with her (but he thinks she is a guest, not a maid).

This sounds like another one of those cliche formula love stories where a guy and a girl meet and it takes them an entire movie (albeit two days or two years) to say something that could have been said within maybe five minutes of meeting each other.

To quote Roger Ebert:

"Because this is an Idiot Plot, in which no one ever says what obviously must be said to clear up the confusion."

"Here is the most tiresome and affected movie in many a moon, a 114-minute demonstration of the Idiot Plot, in which everything could be solved with a few well-chosen words that are never spoken. The underlying story is a simple one: A man and a woman who are obviously intended for each other are kept apart for an entire movie, only to meet at the end. We're supposed to be pleased when they get together." (He was talking about Till There Was You in this review)

So what's wrong with that? I rarely listen to critics anyways. Some of my favorite movies were romcoms. (ie. Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, etc.)

This movie looks like a feel good, cute movie.

Aw...this movie looks really cute. Besides, Ralph Fiennes is in it too. He was fantastic in Red Dragon. :D

Okay, why hasn't anybody bumped this thread?????

I saw the movie the night it came out and I LOVED IT!!!!!! It was a really good movie -- funny, romantic, cute. What else could you ask for? :)

My favorite quote from the movie, "I will make like a baby and head out first." :p

Who else has gone out to see it??

I'm one of few girls who is annoyed by these dull, formulaic romantic comedies!

"When Harry Met Sally" does not fall under this category, it is truly hilarious! (One of Billy Crystal's Best)

hmm the movie was ok.. but i liked it more the first time when it was called "Ever After" :p

Liked it.

And Ralph Fiennes is still gorgeous.

And Natasha Richardson is gettin ooooooold!

FAB*SpiceySpice 12-31-2002 05:26 AM

I loved this movie!

And yes, I'll admit it....I CRIED!!! I'm so cheesy, but romantic movies like this just really get to me. Some of my sisters were with me and thought it was so funny that I was crying like a baby, and they made a nice announcement on the intercom about it as soon as we got home. ;)
