Congratulations! What are your responsibilities?

I'll be working on our national magazine. I love to write and this is one of the most exciting things I've ever worked on!

Congratulations Sigmagrrl!
I'm the national editor for my GLO (all of our National positions are volunteer). I can tell you, you will have a lot of hard but rewarding work to look forward to. The most frustrating thing for me is trying to get members to communicate back to you... your GLO means so much to, especially when you are that involved, and sometimes it can be like pulling teeth to get people to submit info in a timely manner. But I have had several opportunities (in my short year as the editor) to travel, meet other chapters and members and learn so much more about our national organization! It's exciting to have a hand in the continuous development of your GLO. When I meet with the other national officers, there's this excitement about where our organization is heading. Kind of hard to describe, but really cool. Finally, there's this great resource for fraternity and sorority editors, CFEA (College Fraternity Editors Association). If your GLO does not already belong, look into it! There are regional and national conferences with great workshops, I get email regarding editing info and it's just a great networking tool as well. The members are so friendly and encouraging. Congrats again, and good luck in your new position! ------------------ SilverTurtle@greekchat.com Phi Beta Fraternity Phi chapter |

I am also working on my national magazine. Be flexible to write and edit http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/smile.gif Sometimes they just need editors, and other times you get cool articles to write. You'll enjoy it, especially when you get your magazine in the mail, and you know you had something to do with it! Best of luck! Quote:

Well, get ready, she is one of the most awesome ladies I have ever met. She is a HUGE reason why my chapter is even on campus. She helps everyone out and knows everything there is to know about Greek Life, you will LOVE her!

We have alot of non members on the staff of LXA. Had a member from another Fraternity which made a lot of the Brothers very upset!!
The new editor of our magazine is a Delta Gamma! She has made some changes with some input from some of the Brothers and is doing one heck of a job!!! I think this just shows everone that the Greeks inter work for the betterment of the total! While she has not gone through our Ritual, she went through one and has the feeling of being with someone and a part of something very special. I am glad to have Betsy On the staff of My INTERNATIONAL STAFF! ------------------ Tom Earp LX Z#1 Pittsburg State U. (Kansas) |
Tom-
I've discovered that, especially with larger GLOs (i.e. more members and more resources), it's not too uncommon to have non-members on staff. And often they are not even members of any GLOs. Sometimes they will get initiated, but not always (particularly if they are of the opposite sex http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/wink.gif). It surprised me at first, but seems to work well for everyone who utilizes these people... they are looking for the most qualified person, and that person maybe just isn't a member. ------------------ SilverTurtle@greekchat.com Phi Beta Fraternity Phi chapter |
If non-Greeks are working on a national staff....I think it is IMPERATIVE that they have a "crash course" in the Greek alphabet and such. I've seen a lot of errors in our mag with chapter letters etc and I think it must have to do with the people proofing it not knowing their Omegas from their Omicrons. One of last year's chapter consultants was supposedly from a chapter that has been closed 10 years. http://www.greekchat.com/forums/ubb/rolleyes.gif
