Ladybugs
Just wanted y'all to know...I was in Walmart and saw the cutest counting book Ten Little Ladybugs!!
Last page was the last ladybug was home! :D |
We have that book here at the hospital (or something similar)...it's the cutest book! :)
Obviously there is a connection between ladybugs and Phi Mu.... what is it?
I think it's like a "regional" mascot or something. We learned when we were Phis about the ladybug tradition. I think my chapter actually used the ladybug more than the lion.
I think one of the cutest ladybugs is the Anne Geddes Ladybug baby doll.
What is the story behind the ladybug? I'm a northern Phi Mu, and we don't use that, but it's really cute!
i'm also a northern phi mu and i've been wondering about the ladybug too. i heard it was our first mascot or something? we think it's cute but we don't use it that much but i want to give my (hopeful) little ladybugs and lions.
Well, at my chapter in Charleston we learned that the lady bug was our "unofficial" mascot..That's about all I know about it.
My chapter (in Northern OH) used the ladybug as a chapter mascot, as opposed to the lion as national. I'm not sure what the connection is, but has anyone tried the BBS for an answer? I took it to mean that each chapter had individual mascots, so I never really thought about it. But, if memory serves, the ADPi chapter used the lion as well as Raggedy Ann. Is that the same elsewhere?

ladybugs
Prior to the formal adoption (early to mid '80's I think) of the lion 'Sir Fidel' as our official mascot - chapters used both ladybugs and lions - however they wanted as their chapter mascots. I believe the ladybug came about as a spin-off of Phi Mu Ladies (i.e., ladybug) My chapter, Alpha Psi used the ladybug. Our school mascot was the lions, so we kind of got the best of both worlds. To this day - I'm still collecting ladybugs - even picked up a notebook at Wesleyan College this summer during convention that had a swarm of ladybugs on it. Shannon, Alpha Psi '78

Thanks!
It's nice to know there are others who collect the ladybugs! My mother picked up on them when I was collegiate, and she still gets me something at least once a year that has a ladybug somewhere. My son is obsessed with them, too. hehe I don't know where that came from.... ~L |
