Interest Group contact question

A collegiate emailed our local alum group about wanting to bring our chapter back to campus. What is the policy on alumnae meeting with unaffiliated women? We will let her know she should direct her inquiry to CPC and Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. However she is also asking specific question about our chapter history. Can we met with her?

Thank you

i don't see why not. Do the alums support a return to that campus? I see nothing wrong with giving them the history of the chapter, omitting things that you don't want to perpetuate. i would certainly encourage they reach out the the campus Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life as well as your national org.

As Titchou said, there's no rule saying that you can't meet with her; however, I question whether or not it's advisable to entertain "specific questions" about your sorority at this juncture. If this is an NPC sorority, a collegian or group of collegians can't single-handedly petition to bring a dormant chapter back to campus. This is also true for you and your alumnae chapter.

A campus must be open for expansion and a notification sent to NPC by the university. The national NPC office will notify all of their sororities of the campus' wish for a new chapter, interested sororities will submit a letter of interest to the campus, and finalists will be selected by the university to come present. Regardless of any interest from this one collegian, you, or the local alumnae, your sorority may 1) not be interested in returning to this campus or 2) may not be invited to campus to present or 3) even if they present, your organization may not be selected to open the new chapter.

A singular collegian has very, very, very little involvement in this process. To entertain her is potentially to get her hopes up unreasonably. Your best bet is to refer the young woman to CPC and the Greek Life Office for information on if this campus is even open for expansion. It sounds like she just really wants to be a member of XYZ sorority and the chapter isn't on campus. She would likely be better off re-evaluating her options to participate in recruitment with the chapters currently on campus.

I can see that, Navane. There is plenty of info online. I would be gracious and tell her the some history of the chapter and direct her to the appropriate people.
