It's Been 20 Years--Has the New Recruitment Model Saved Chapters?

Definitely yes! With the new rules that require the strongest chapters to release far more women early on, PNMs have reconsidered other chapters. I have seen chapters that had suffered for years come back and even pull themselves far out of "troubled" status.

I do get, though, that the early and harsh cuts are often devastating to PNMs.

Undoubtedly yes, RFM has saved chapters and found homes for more PNMs. Unfortunately, collegians refusing to live in their chapter facilities threatens to undo the progress created by RFM at campuses across the country. Earlier this year, a change was made to the MOI that if 50% or more of the chapters on a given campus do not meet their facility requirements (ie they have empty beds), total is automatically adjusted to largest chapter size (or higher!).

I would say a huge yes. After hearing the bed rush sagas from IU and Uark I’m happy the system was put in place. Yes the early big cuts can get harsh but if you get cut that early you can easily redirect and focus on the houses you have on your card. Better than all the big houses straining PNMs along the whole way then not getting a bid on bid day.
