Among the Bros: book on rx drug dealing in Charleston SC

Just found out about this book. Author was in a fraternity himself. Investigates a drug operation that began as college kids selling to each other and wound up a full scale drug dealing/manufacturing operation.

Interview with the author

The book

“When Max Marshall arrived on the campus of the College of Charleston in 2018, he hoped to investigate a small-time fraternity Xanax trafficking ring. Instead, he found a homicide, several student deaths, and millions of dollars circulating around the Deep South“

I’m putting this in news because, although it started out in a college’s GL, it became something much larger than that. The book starts off in college/GL but the operation becomes much larger than the campus. It’s also an issue that effects everyone in some way, shape or form- not just college students or people in GL.

These pressed pills are terrifying. Drug dealers are cutting them with fentanyl and xylazine, but if people aren’t educated on the process or origin of the pills, they don’t know they’re ingesting these substances.

I’m about 60% through and it’s pretty mind blowing.

I'm not surprised. Some of the major druggies from my daughters' high school went there years ago and we knew there had to be a reason.

I just remember seeing pics of the campus and being blown away at how beautiful it was!

The only thing I know about Charleston is that I went to Basic Training at Ft Jackson lol. We didn’t really get to sightsee in the city though. We flew in and out of Charleston, so I bought a keychain…for years, people would see it and ask me about my vacation there lol

Just wish they had used a picture of one of the Kappa Alpha founders instead of one of the Sigma Chi founders. The focus of the book is on a KA.

Just wish they had used a picture of one of the Kappa Alpha founders for the cover instead of one of the Sigma Chi founders. 😎 The focus of the book is on a KA.

That’s crazy! I didn’t realize who the man in the photo was!

I read this book last weekend, what a depressing picture of college and fraternity life.

Part of me thinks they’re the kind of people who just think they’re above the law…and then I remember that addiction can happen to anyone. I was googling some of the people in the book and I found a few obituaries.
