GLO in Community Colleges
I joined a local sorority back when I was attending a 4-year, but the grand chapter of that org had been formed at a community college. The grand chapter eventually got kicked off because the college decided to no longer allow greek life, but that made me wonder...
Are there any currently active chapters of any sororities/fraternities that are at any 2-year colleges? I live in NY, and so far I can't find any here, but I was thinking that there might be some down south where greek life is much more prominent. I feel like local orgs are more likely to be at 2-year colleges rather than nationals, but any info at all would be helpful. |
No. NPC is sort of studying that issue but the majority of the groups have rules requiring 4 year institutions. Otherwise,it's locals and some non NPC groups that allow it. I'm from Alabama,, in case that helps. There are a couple of 4 year ones that give dual enrollment to a local 2 year school. Texas A & M does that with Blinn. There are a couple of others but I forget who they are.

I'm not sure on whether NPHC fraternities and sororities can have chapters at Community Colleges either alone or as part of a Area chapter. (See http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/ar...php/t-597.html for a discussion from 2000) Alpha Phi Omega co-ed National Service Fraternity has had chapters at Community Colleges. Most are inactive but a *few* have survived and I think Nations is willing to expand to CCs at the moment. I know there are some honoraries that are specifically for Community Colleges, like a1) Delta Psi Omega theatre honorary for two year schools is affiilated with the Alpha Psi Omega for four year schools and 2) Phi Theta Kappa |
