Two Omega Astronauts

Omega has had many distinguished men in the sciences, including the first African-American Astronaut and a Brother who perished on the Challenger in 1886.

Bro. Ronald E. McNair, Ph.D., was a scholar, scientist, true renaissance man (Jazz saxophonist, 5th degree Black Belt in Karate), and humanitarian. He was initiated into Omega via the "Bloody" Mu Psi Chapter at NC A&T State University as a member of "The Dirty Dozen" Line in 1969. He was also chosen as Omega Psi Phi Scholar of the Year during his undergrad years. Now, the Undergraduate Luncheon at each Grand Conclave, International Undergraduate Summit, International Leadership Conference, or District Conference is named in his honor.

Bro. Major Robert Lawrence, Ph.D. was a precocious scholar, an Air Force test pilot, and a physical chemist who was initiated into Omega at Bradley University in Illinois. He was the first African-American astronaut chosen for the MOL space program. He was tragically killed in a training accident.
