Halloween: Satanic holiday?

Or not?

sororitygirl2 10-14-2002 02:13 PM

Originally, perhaps.

But now it's just a good excuse to act out fantasies and drink!

ENJOY!

Is anything that is not "Christian" satanic?

Here is a little bit of history:

Actually, it is a Pagan/Wiccan holiday, which is in no way satanic.

AGDLynn 10-14-2002 03:11 PM

Of course not!! It's my and my niece's bday!!;)

I know that I can be a witch sometimes, but that's not because of my birthday, lol!

Just to clarify...

There's a vast difference between something that is "satanic" and something that is "pagan." Halloween is NOT a satanic holiday.

I thought wicca and paganism originated from satanicism.

Nope. Actually far from it. The devil doesn't even exist in the Wiccan religion. It's hard to worship something that you don't even believe exists. ;)

Seriously, though... Dionysus, you certainly aren't the only one to be confused by this. Many Christians lump Satan worshippers, Wicca practitioners, and pagans into the same category. They are all very different, though, and I think you'll find that most Wiccans and pagans are upset by the negative stereotype. Kind of like how we Greeks are upset by the Animal House stereotype. :)

some info...

Here's a thread from last year that gives some info about Halloween. The first post offers the stereotypical viewpoint of certain "Christians," but there are several responses which clarify some misconceptions about Halloween, witchcraft, Wicca, and paganism.

My 5 year old nephew goes to a Baptist school and is not allowed to dress up or celebrate Halloween in school. I think thats a real shame. I went to Catholic school for 13 years and we always celebrated Halloween. Nov 1st is a Holy day of obligation called All Saints Day (which means you must attend mass that day) so Halloween was just a precedent to that.
I think sometimes people take things way out of context!
But thats just MY opinion.

Too many churches are taking any holiday that doesn't glorify religion to be evil... and if it's evil it must be satanic. Is that the correct train of thought?

Its what they think but it is not correct.

Peaches-n-Cream 10-14-2002 05:28 PM

Halloween is not Satanic. It is Celtic and Druid. Check out ZTAMiami's website link.

Rio_Kohitsuji 10-14-2002 05:39 PM

Wait..wasn't Halloween originally called 'All Saints Day'? Because for some reason, I'm thinking Halloween started out as a Christian holiday. But I could be wrong, anyone have any info about that?
